At a moment in which religious diversity is ever-increasing in the United States and more than three-quarters of the world’s population identifies with a religious tradition, it is important for writing teachers to consider how to best cultivate writers who are equipped to build identifications across religious difference. This essay traces my efforts to engage this exigence in my advanced undergraduate writing course at Baylor University entitled Religious Rhetorics and Spiritual Writing (RRSW). This article argues for increased attention to people’s engagements with inscriptions and inscriptional practices and the long-term implications they have for the ongoing production of persons, practices, and social worlds across heterogeneous times, places, and activities. Based on a multi-year case study, this analysis examines one microbiology major’s production and use of inscriptions at the intersections of his participation in both disciplinary science and religious worship and traces the long-term consequences those uses have for his becoming as a scientist of faith. Karen Hering, a Unitarian Universalist minister serving Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, Minnesota, is author of Writing to Wake the Soul: Opening the Sacred Conversation Within. In her book, Rev. Hering leads readers through the practice of contemplative correspondence, which she describes as “a spiritual practice of writing rooted in theology and story; drawn to the surface by questions, prompts, and ellipses; and most fully experienced when its words are accepted as invitations into conversations and relationships with others” (xx). The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the COVID-19 disease, has swiftly infected millions of people since it was first identified in late 2019. While much remains unknown about the virus, it is increasingly clear that many survivors (including children and adolescents) struggle with ongoing symptoms for months after they receive a negative test.

The National Institutes of Health recently started using the term “post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC) infection,” and we encourage its use because the term more accurately refers to the symptoms and complications experienced after the virus is no longer detected via testing.

With the growing trend of using multimedia platforms such as YouTube to facilitate storytelling, understanding how and when to integrate text with visuals would benefit both the creators of these platforms and the young readers viewing them. The current study examined the effect of orthography on vocabulary acquisition and narrative comprehension in young readers (children in 2^nd and 3^rd grade, ages 6-9) during a computer-based storytelling task. This qualitative phenomenological study investigated the perspectives of students on Positive Behavior and Interventions (PBIS) and its effect on school climate. Previous research highlighted a connection between student behavior and school climate. In individual interviews, participants were asked to describe the various factors that influenced their school experience, including their behavior in middle school as well as those that influenced school climate. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory (EST) and systems view of school climate (SVSC) were used as a guide for structuring research questions, designing interview questions, and analyzing and interpreting data.

A Mixed-Methods Analysis Of Educational Spaces And Black Identity Development, Kala Burrell-Craft, Danielle R. Eugene

Guided by Critical Race Theory, Racial Space Theory, and Black Identity Development through the lens of the Nigrescence model, this mixed-methods study explored the links between educational spaces/places and Black identity development in a sample of Black professional adults (n=39). Correlation analysis revealed a weak positive relationship between space and Black racial identity and little to no correlational effect between place and Black racial identity. Three themes were identified: educational spaces, HBCU versus PWI debate, and stages of Black identity development with each providing more depth of understanding of how educational spaces influence Black identity development. Study implications are discussed.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought restraints into people’s activities. Consequently, during the pandemic, the school guidance and counseling services should be conducted online. Therefore, this study seeks to identify the types of online media frequently used by school counselors in classical guidance and individual or group counseling, as well as the rationale. This descriptive quantitative study involved 106 school counselors and used an Online Media Usage questionnaire to obtain the data. This study aims to develop a peace guidebook as a medium for school counselors in reducing student aggressiveness. The research employed research and development design proposed by Borg and Gall model, which includes identifying aggressive needs and problems, drafting a hypothetical product, and expert and user assessment of the product. The data analysis technique used descriptive analysis to describe the level of aggressiveness. In addition, this study uses Cohens Kappa’s inter-rater reliability (IRR) coefficient to identify expert and user agreement on product feasibility. An achievement gap has the propensity to produce psychological distress, as well as buffering techniques that are necessary for survival and success. As a group, these students are more likely to engage in risk behaviors. Despite this, very few studies have focused on mental health outcomes and sources of resilience for this specific population. While some studies have found that student on-task behaviors matched contingent teacher attention around half the observations (Martens et al., 1990), other studies have found that first grade students’ on-task behavior matched contingent teacher attention more than half of observations (Shriver & Kramer, 1997).
