The Effect Of Using Web Quests And Learning Platforms For Teaching Mathematics On Developing The Mathematical Power Among Eighth Grade Students, Dr. Mofeed Ahmad Abumosa, Dr. Jafar Awad Saleh

International Journal for Research in Education

The study aimed to identify the effect of using web-quests and learning platforms to develop mathematical power among eighth-grade students. The study adopted the semi-experimental approach. A ninety-eight graders in the second semester 2018-2019 participated in this study. Participants were randomly distributed into three groups. The first group represented the first experimental group (web-quests), the second group represented the second experimental group (learning platforms), and the last group represented the control group (traditional). An achievement for mathematical power test was developed. The results showed statistical differences at (p < 0.05) among the average scores of the three study groups. Results showed that the second experimental group (learning platforms) was better than other groups. Moreover, the first experimental group (web-quests) was better than the third one (traditional). Recommendations to adopt learning platforms in teaching mathematics may help in developing mathematical power.

Teaching and Supervision in Counseling

The authors used a quantitative content analysis methodology to explore the available literature on pedagogical practices for teaching counselors how to work with suicidal clients. From an initial pool of 71 potentially applicable articles found in Counseling, Psychiatry, general mental health, Psychology, and Social Work journals, 26 articles were found to meet inclusion criteria by specifically exploring the impact or efficacy of different pedagogical practices relevant to suicide response in counselor training. These 26 articles were coded using quantitative content analysis procedures. This mixed methods program evaluation sought to determine the current curriculum’s overall effectiveness in relation to student readiness for fieldwork. The use of teaching practices in this occupational therapy curriculum was evaluated to determine if they support a successful transition to professional practice. Qualitative data was collected through semistructured interviews to ascertain student satisfaction with the educational program, student readiness for fieldwork, and the student perception of the educational program’s mission. The concurrent enrollment opportunity offers science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) college-credit coursework taught by college-credentialed instructors on the student’s high school campus. One faculty member transitioned to Embry-Riddle’s main residential campus following seven years of service with ERAU’s concurrent enrollment program. This research study merged the seemingly divergent challenges of a soft skills shortage among workforce-ready young adults and the need to develop curricula that are interesting enough to hold students’ attention. This article reports a phenomenological analysis of 13 counselor educators about their supervision experiences with sexuality counseling topics. The eight resulting themes were managing conflicting emotions, creating conditions, values, advocacy, student focus, language, multicultural competency, and student autonomy. Findings suggested the importance of supervisors working with process rather than sexual content when supervising Counselors in Training (CITs) for sexual health topics they encountered during counseling training. Participant experiences and tools were discussed, such as allowing CITs personal processing, and teaching contextual understanding. Implications for supervision and future research shared.
