This field study is a three-pronged effort: (1) to conduct a survey among district faculty to discover the attitudes toward the usefulness of a series of ten videotaped programs depicting excellent speech communication models performing in three basic areas--acting, interpretation, and public address, (2) to produce these ten programs and add them to the library, and (3) to survey selected groups of students to aquire their reactions to the tapes.

A Hands-On Museum For Children, Stephanie Townsend
A Hands-On Museum For Children, Stephanie Townsend
Graduate Theses
This paper concerns itself with the preparation for the development of a children's hands-on museum. Included is a definition of such a museum, a rationale for this type of museum, organizational considerations of a community museum, four exhibits intended to stimulate and guide children's cognitive processes, and a brief summation. The rationale for this children's museum is derived primarily from Piaget's theory of cognitive developmental psychology. Thus, the exhibits are exemplars of Piagetian curriculum. The organization section emphasizes Guthe's philosophy concerning museum organization.

Laboratory, Computer Program Audio-Visual Or Lecture Methods, Karin A. Ostrand
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
A comparison is made of the relative learning effectiveness under several instructional methods: a laboratory approach, computer-programmed instruction, and audio-visual teaching, with the traditional lecture method as a control. No significant differences have been recorded relative to the different methods or sex of the students. Some indication of preference among the laboratory and computer groups for those activities is noted, but not sufficiently strong to be considered educationally significant.

Learning Stations: One Method Of Individualization, Douglas Harrenstein
Graduate Research Papers
This research paper will attempt to answer the question: Learning stations: How do they work? Because of the current emphasis on individualization, learning stations offer one way of approaching individualization. The concept of learning stations hinges on the premise that the teacher can make better learning opportunities for more individual types.

Group tests of mental ability are used far more extensively than individual tests in selection and classification procedures where large numbers of individuals are concerned. Historically, group testing was developed in America during the time of the First World War, in 1917, to meet the practical demands of selection and classification of the overwhelming number of recruits. One of the first men to experiment with these group measurement techniques was Arthur S . Otis.

Coaching The Track Events, Thomas Ecker
Coaching The Track Events, Thomas Ecker
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
But in track and field the athlete's point of view seems to be different from that of a team sport participant. Because of the individuality of his sport, the track man is motivated, primarily, through self-satisfaction - through knowing that he has accomplished something on his own. Track men have little hope for material gain through their sport, yet, paradoxically, they are the most dedicated, self-sacrificing group of athletes in the world.

The Efficiency Of Bilingual Children In Understanding Analogies In The English Language, Veta Walker Mercer
The Efficiency Of Bilingual Children In Understanding Analogies In The English Language, Veta Walker Mercer
Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs
It is felt that the bilingual population in the southwest is of significantly large enough proportions to warrant specialized emphasis on its education problems. These children need to become better comprehensive readers, not merely word-callers. Teachers frequently assume that if their pupils recognize the words of selection, comprehension is assured. Unfortunately, this is not true in many instances. There are many aspects of English language which might cause bilingual children some difficulty. A few of these might be the analogy, synonym, homonym, multiple meaning, antonym, and the idiomatic expression. This study is designed to reveal the extent which bilingual children …
