This experiment was devised as a possible means of overcoming reading difficulties in children who come from a low socio-economic and cultural background and, at the same time, involving their parents in the reading instructional program. Weekly sessions, involving informal reading activities, were attended by the parents and their children. The study was initiated to determine whether or not certain skills which are necessary to the development of good speech could be programed. Students utilizing programed instruction techniques would be able to practice skills which were formerly acquired during regular therapy sessions and, therefore, have the benefit of therapeutic services at their own discretion.
