This qualitative exploratory study investigated the selection and change of majors for nine HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) students. The study included individual structured interviews that provided data that answered the following research questions: 1) what factors influenced the initial selection of major, and 2) what factors influenced the change of major? Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory (BET), utilizing each of the five layers, was used as the theoretical framework to understand how the students’ backgrounds or their ecology influenced major choices. The current study examined hindering factors of 2-year community college students’ vertical transfer to 4-year colleges. The Rational Choice Theory guided the study and provided the scope of the problem, which is community college students' apprehension about transferring to 4-year colleges vertically. A quantitative Likert scale survey, which comprised demographic questions and measures of variable scales, was the data-gathering instrument. This study investigates the relationship between mastery goal performance and achievement on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test. With policies like the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) placing increased importance on standardized-state assessments, schools are making efforts to improve scores, often by focusing heavily on test preparation. However, such conventional methods can restrict teaching in unproductive ways. Mastery goals, based on achievement goal theory, offer a potential alternative, although limited research exists on their impact on testing outcomes. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic and the murder of George Floyd sparked a review of racial inequities in the United States of America. There was a push to advance anti-racism and a pull to revert to the status quo of following White norms. However, many school leaders could not ignore the racial disparities plaguing the education system. They strived to support necessary change toward anti-racist, equitable schools. To achieve such transformation, organizational change was required. In the ever-evolving landscape of today's world, the realm of leadership finds itself confronted with a tapestry of intricate challenges, each thread contributing to the fabric of modern leadership style dilemmas. In this study, we aimed to explore the integrated values of Asta Brata’s leadership style within the leadership practices of school principals in Bali Provinces, Indonesia. We employed a phenomenological research design and interviewed a cohort of 50 principals from various elementary schools. Speech-language pathologists often report a lack of preparedness to provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) services, suggesting the need for improved graduate level training. Recent studies of AAC coursework offerings found 86% to 88% of programs offered AAC coursework, but these studies relied on survey methods with limited numbers of responses. This study examined AAC course offerings at 311 graduate programs using website and course catalog reviews, supplemented by direct contact with departments when dedicated AAC courses could not be found using online resources. Of these, 282 (90.68%) offered a dedicated AAC course, and 16 (5.14%) offered AAC in combination …

This phenomenological study embarked on a journey with four Native American females to discover the lifelong and life-wide experiences that led to sustained motivation as evidenced through their extended careers in contemporary educational settings. Limited research exists on Native American-voiced perceptions surrounding issues pertinent to their success. A series of three life interviews afforded meaning-making of key moments, from earliest to current. This statewide, multiyear study was an examination of industry-based certification attainment rates by the economic status of Texas public high school graduates. Data analyzed were provided by the Texas Education Agency via the Texas Academic Performance Reports for the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, and 2021-2022 school years. Inferential statistical analyses revealed that students who were economically disadvantaged earned industry-based certifications at a lower rate than all Texas high school graduates in aggregate. The gaps in attainment rates between students who were economically disadvantaged and the all student group increased over the three school years of data analyzed. Trends in attainment for both …

The intersectional identities of Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color (BIWOC) affect their sense of belonging in doctoral study as they face microaggressions and unwelcoming institutional structures. Imposter Syndrome (IS), resulting from situational, institutional, and dispositional factors, is often the result of exclusion and self-doubt. Program directors, peers, and faculty members all have a role in creating an inclusive community that mitigates IS.

School social workers have great potential to support schools and student learning. A study was conducted to examine the demographics, job services, and job responsibilities of Texas school social workers. A convergent parallel mixed method design was used to compare and discuss quantitative and qualitative data obtained. A survey was emailed to 476 Texas school social workers (TSSW) identified in an edited official state list. Data was received from 250 TSSWs. The data reveals consistency with existing school social work literature related to demographics and provides novel information on work and education characteristics of TSSWs. This paper examines the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the returns to education in the United States. Using data from the Current Population Survey 2011-2022, the analysis reveals that, after a period of decline, returns to education increased significantly because of COVID, particularly for men and those with university education. The returns to university for men increased by 1 percentage points. The results underscore the importance of continued investment in education to mitigate the adverse effects of future crises.
