The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe the academic advising experiences of first-year community college students at a rural community college located in Eastern North Carolina. The theory guiding this study is Vygotsky's social constructivism. A qualitative methodology was used to achieve this study. The setting for this study was a community college located in a rural community with an enrollment of at least 1,200 students. A purposeful criterion sampling of 10 first-year community college students was used to help complete this study. Data was collected using individual interviews, focus groups, and letter writing. The 8th Annual GSEP Research Symposium, was themed "Dismantling Barriers between Research and Practice: Shining a Light on Global Interdisciplinary Solutions," took place on July 18-19, 2024, at the picturesque Château d'Hauteville in Saint-Légier-La Chiésaz, Switzerland.

The annual symposium is hosted by the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP). The symposium served as a dynamic platform for students, faculty, alums, and staff to come together and explore innovative ideas across multiple disciplines. This action research study aims to identify and address equity gaps within a PK-8 New Jersey school by leading a professional learning community (PLC). The study will use action research methods to conduct an educational equity audit, which will inform the annual school plan and create a leadership action plan to stimulate organizational change. Traditionally, teachers at the research site have used Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) cycles, but this study will integrate Critical Data-Driven Decision Making (CDDDM) cycles, including an equity audit analyzed in PLCs. Differences In Algebra I End-Of-Course Exam Performance Of African-American Girls As A Function Of Their Economic Status: A Texas, Multiyear Analysis, Latonia Amerson, Cynthia Martinez-Garcia, John R. Slate

The extent to which differences were present for African American girls as a function of their economic status in their performance on the Texas state-mandated Algebra I End-of-Course exam was examined. Specifically addressed was the extent to which African American girls differed in their performance on three Grade Level performance standards: Approaches Grade Level, Meets Grade Level, and Masters Grade Level. Inferential statistical analyses of Texas statewide data revealed that statistically significantly lower percentages of African American girls who were economically disadvantaged met the three Grade Level standards than African American girls who were not in poverty. In 2020, Euphrates Institute piloted the Peace Practice Alliance (PPA), a virtual six-month program that brings together an international cohort of peacebuilders to learn peace leadership theories and develop related skills and practices. The program framework is based on integral peace leadership, which focuses on four interrelated areas of Innerwork, Knowledge, Community, and Environment. As part of an emergent field, limited research has documented the application of integral peace leadership in peacebuilder training and development programs. In recent years, an increasing amount of pressure has been placed on K-12 school principals to engage as instructional leaders to increase student achievement. Historically, however, principals were expected to operate as school managers instead of instructional leaders, and therefore, often felt unprepared as instructional leaders. Many principals also faced barriers, such as time constraints, that impeded their ability to be effective instructional leaders. To remedy this problem of practice, school districts repurposed the principal supervisor role to provide both supervision and coaching for principals. The present study investigated how an instructional coach supported elementary classroom teachers in critically analyzing interactive read-aloud texts and facilitating critical conversations with students about inclusive picture books. Extant literature highlights the importance of the representation of all identities in children’s literature. This qualitative collaborative inquiry research study was framed by critical literacy theory. Six classroom teachers in grades kindergarten through 5^th grade participated in this research. The purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to study the underlying causes that contributed to the low performance of students with different abilities on STAAR standardized tests and strategies the teachers in the State of Texas use to prepare students with different abilities. This qualitative phenomenological study examines special education teachers’ perspectives to understand how virtual learning environments can support, through social–emotional interactions, the cognitive development of students with low-incident disabilities in a homebound setting. For this study, which was based on Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory (1978), qualitative data were collected through 15 semi-structured interviews with special education teachers with experience providing virtual instruction to students with low-incidence disabilities. The study’s findings showed that special education teachers perceive virtual instruction as benefiting low-incidence disability students in a homebound setting. Dual enrollment has increased enrollment by offering opportunities to a broader audience. However, portions of this broader audience may be unprepared to face the challenges of being dual-enrollment students. In 2019, a coronavirus strand, SARS-CoV-2, caused a global pandemic of respiratory illness, also referred to as the coronavirus (Covid-19). The U.S. government implemented massive school closures as a non-pharmaceutical intervention to mitigate the spread of the virus. The abrupt pivot to the asynchronous learning model resulted in low levels of engagement for many students. The purpose of this quantitative non-experimental cross-sectional study was to examine the possible relationship between students’ autonomy, students’ competence, and student-teacher relatedness, and their performance on ELA and math high-stakes tests. The self-determination theory was employed to guide the study. This study collected self-reported data from a sample of 116 5th through 8th grade students using the Basic Psychological Needs in the Classroom survey. The problem addressed in this qualitative study is the rise in teacher job dissatisfaction and low rates of retention, which has resulted in a significant increase in teacher vacancies in school districts across the United States. The purpose of this study was to describe and understand the lived experiences of early-career secondary teachers with organizational constraints and supports as related to job satisfaction.
