The purpose of this case study is to discover how the characteristics of a courageous follower are presented in the work of support staff in student involvement offices at select Midwest community colleges. This qualitative case study is relevant to grounded theory and provides a method to cultivate concepts from data to further recognize the representation of courageous followership characteristics. The research participants were four male and five female student affairs professionals working in student involvement offices. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the personal and professional factors that motivate evangelical Christian women to make career transitions in mid-life. Erikson’s psychosocial development (1980), Dweck’s (2006) growth mindset, and Fowler’s (1981) faith development served as the theoretical underpinnings of the study. The research sample consisted of five mid-life women who made at least one career transition in mid-life. Semi-structured interviews yielded rich and detailed information regarding the women’s experiences as mid-life professionals. The purpose of this mixed-methods study was to explore how graduates of traditional teacher preparation programs perceived their preparedness to teach students experiencing trauma stemming from adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). The study focused on the perceptions of novice teachers working in Title 1 schools across two school districts in Central Florida. The quantitative research portion of the study involved an online survey addressing the impact of teacher preparation program coursework and clinical experiences on the teachers’ perceptions of preparedness. Because the civil rights of the LGBT community have risen to the forefront in American culture since the turn of the twenty-first century, this study sought to analyze membership eligibility policies and attitudes of single-sex, Greek-letter, social fraternal organizations in regards to transgender individuals. Title IX of the United States Education Amendment of 1972 provides protection from discrimination by institutes of higher learning that receive federal financial assistance. However, section 1681 of Title IX provides an exemption for social fraternities and sororities with primary active membership of students enrolled at a shelter institution. This study is important because teacher attendance rates continue to decrease. The study was conducted to help school districts develop policies and procedures to help combat teacher absenteeism. This quantitative study gathered data to determine perceptions of Arkansas’ rural elementary principals pertaining to teacher absenteeism. Determinants And Outcomes Of Teachers’ Work Engagement And Organizational Commitment: A Cross-National Comparative Study Between Turkey And The United States, Ayhan Ozturk

This cross-national study comparatively analyzed determinants and outcomes of teachers’ work engagement and organizational commitment in Turkey and the United States. Informed by the relevant literature, teachers’ organizational identification, perceived organizational support, and principal authentic leadership were the determinants. The outcome variables included teachers’ organizational citizenship behaviors and counterproductive work behaviors. A simple cluster random sampling was used to sample teachers. Sampling inclusion criteria were school configuration and school type. After removing incomplete cases and outliers, the respective samples included 319 teachers and 30 school principals from Ankara, Turkey and 192 teachers and 17 school principals from Arkansas, the United …

The authors apply the signature pedagogies framework for pedagogical foundations in counselor education put forth by Baltrinic and Wachter Morris (In press) to counseling leadership. Accordingly, we first define counseling leadership and describe the limited literature focused on pedagogical practices related to counseling leadership. Next, we discuss supervision and use the notion of broad and specific features as discussed within Baltrinic and Wachter Morris (In press) to systematically examine whether there is a signature pedagogy for counseling leadership, and purport how supervision of counseling leadership largely fulfills the criteria. An Experimental Evaluation Of Arts Field Trips, Heidi H. Erickson, Angela R. Watson, Jay P. Greene

This paper presents results of a multi-visit, longitudinal experiment on the academic and social-emotional effects of arts-based field trips. We randomly assign fourth and fifth grade students to receive arts-based field trips throughout the school year or to serve as a control. Treatment students express greater tolerance for people with different opinions and a desire to consume arts. Additionally, treatment students have fewer behavioral infractions, attend school more frequently, score higher on their end-of-grade exams, and receive higher course grades. Effects are strongest when students enter middle school. We find no effect on students’ desire to participate in the arts, …
