This poster explores the concept of building leadership skills in progression from entry-level to leader-level. Each person starts at the entry-level (beginning) and continues building their skillset which sometimes results in a manager or leader. Day (2006) said there are four leadership models: the strong individual, the hierarchy, the pipeline, and collective practices. Day (2000) also noted that there is a difference between leader development and leadership development.Leader development focused on individual while leadership development focused on social capital.

Afterschool programs have the potential to teach positive social, psychological, and physical skills to youth participants, but these benefits are not an automatic consequence of mere participation. Evidence-based research evaluating programs is necessary to determine magnitude of impact and explanations for positive season-long change. This study used a rigorous approach to evaluate the effectiveness of Girls on the Run on youth development, including competence, confidence, connection, character, caring (5Cs), and health outcomes. The problem is the West Virginia's community and technical colleges (CTCs) are experiencing a decline in enrollment. Therefore, higher education institutions are learning that they need to become more adaptable to the unpredictability and uncertainty when the institution encounters a decline in student enrollment. West Virginia’s CTCs appear to have seen a decrease in student enrollment of 19.4 percent from 2012 to 2016 to a 4.7 percent from 2015 to 2016. Instructional design requires practitioners to integrate best practices, use appropriate tools, and strategically apply current and emerging technologies to meet clients’ and organizations’ needs. Many practitioners achieve high levels of technical expertise in this way. However, the author of this poster suggests that, to become a leader in instructional design, practitioners must develop as experts through a process of acquiring horizontal expertise via two concepts described by Engeström, Engeström, & Kärkkäinen (1995). Polycontextuality describes how experts accomplish multiple simultaneous tasks within multiple communities of practices. Boundary crossing occurs when two different activities are linked together.

Burnout Among Filipino Occupational Therapists: A Mixed Methods Analysis, Rod Charlie Delos Reyes

The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy

Background: There is a shortage of practicing occupational therapists in the Philippines, with approximately one Filipino occupational therapist per 30,000 stakeholders. One of the possible consequences is the experience of burnout among therapists.

Method: A two-phase mixed methods study using a sequential explanatory approach was used. The first phase involved the administration of the Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) with a survey questionnaire that supplied demographic and work-related factors through an online platform. The results were analyzed using frequency distribution and measures of central tendency. Relationships were analyzed using Spearman’s Rho and Cramer’s V. The second phase …

This module covers several topics in communication beyond public speaking. It emphasizes the importance of communication in general and how it relates to leadership. First, students will explore the ideas and applications of negotiation in leadership. To give students the skills to effectively speak and negotiate, the module also allows students to practice concepts of nonverbal communication such as subconscious body language. The module also demonstrates how a leader can use manipulation and persuasion, as well as the distinction between the two topics. Finally, the module has students critically analyze the ethics and necessity of political correctness.

The purpose of this module is to encourage students to take a step back from their personal lives and their own religion in order to analyze religion as a whole and how it affects leadership, community, an individual’s decision making, etc. The module also focuses on the ways self-discipline is part of religion by tying the skill into the characteristics of religion and analyzing its presence in religious groups.

Recently, there has been more focus on issues related to the professional development of teacher leaders (TLs), but there is still much to learn. Situated within a larger study, the purpose of this research was to understand the ways in which individuals participated in teacher leadership and how participation and identities shaped and were shaped by communities of practice (Lave & Wenger, 1991). As increasing institutional paralysis and polarization demonstrate, citizens are not engaged or motivated by ecological challenges because they struggle to identify with our catastrophic relationship to nature in this urban, anthropocentric, and climactically-fraught modern era. Rather than focus solely on natural areas as a pathway to ecological consciousness and action, educators can inspire citizens through a “Pedestrian Pedagogy of Place” that brings wonder and enchantment into our urban public realm. Using the principles of sustainability education and place-based education as a framework, this pedagogy recognizes the sidewalk and pedestrian experience as a shared classroom through sensory, awareness-based learning modalities.
