There is evidence for health and education communities that call for disability curricula in care provider education. The purpose of this study was to explore what adults with physical disabilities (AWPD) experience in health clinics regarding access to care with physical environments, attitudes, and disability knowledge, and to construct a comprehensive survey for care providers asking about accessibility in their clinics. A transformative mixed methods approach included AWPD in research to provide an authentic representation of this population accessing care in health clinics. This study was conducted in two phases. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine how Montessori early childhood teachers approach teaching about race and racial bias in their classrooms. Twenty-four Montessori early childhood teachers participated in an open-ended survey, and five teachers of those 24 participated in a data-informed online semi-structured interview. The interviewees received an infographic with narrative and graphics in which themes of the survey were detailed, a form of graphic elicitation. Surveys and interviews were coded and analyzed for themes. Themes were verified through independent coding by an independent analyst. Ninth-grade students were given a survey modified from the work of Aydin, Yerdelen, Gurbuzuglo, Yalmanci, and Goksu (2014) following completion of their high school biology course which asked for their level of agreement on 18 statements regarding motivation to learn biology. The results from the state assessment in biology standards competencies were correlated with reported motivation type and level. Students were asked to indicate their course choice, identified culture, gender, and whether they qualified for free or reduced-priced lunch. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the relationship, if any, between the adaptive culture of an elementary school and student achievement. The Adaptive Culture Profile Scale collected data from elementary school leadership teams across Minnesota. This data was then compared to student achievement results, as measured by the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA). Results of the study indicate there is no relationship between adaptive culture of an elementary school and student achievement proficiency or student achievement growth. In this era of accountability, schools work hard to find ways to improve students’ achievement especially performance on standardized tests. This quantitative study utilized two-by-two factorial ANOVAs and Chi-square tests of independence to test its primary and secondary research questions. Primary research questions included finding out whether or not there was a difference in third and fifth grade students’ MCA-III math and reading scores based on whether they attend a total language immersion school or a traditional model school. This dissertation investigated how designers, leaders, and clients at a large public research university enacted and perceived the value of design thinking as an approach to solving problems. A review of the literature found interest but little research in how design thinking may help higher education institutions address complex problems. The researcher visited the university, gathered documents, viewed and photographed work spaces used for design thinking, and conducted semi-structured interviews with 16 people at the university. Although children’s development may be continuous, their early learning experience may not be. Absent from the field is literature describing actual teacher practices that are continued from early learning settings to kindergarten. This quantitative comparison study explored the continuous adult behaviors in two types of childcare early learning environments to determine if these behaviors are continuous, and to what degree, with the adult behaviors exhibited by kindergarten teachers at the time of kindergarten entry. Students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders, in combination with significant and chronic behaviors, are often placed in alternative educational settings. No clear rationale is used by school districts to determine educational placement, and schools rely on a variety of settings to provide instruction and services to students with disabilities. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the narrative regarding student placement in restrictive settings and the individual and institutional rationales for student transitions. This study explored the impact of one-to-one technology on motivating students to higher academic achievement within math and reading curricula in the fourth-grade and fifth-grade intermediate classrooms. Located at an urban/suburban PreK-5 elementary school outside of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, 14 educators implemented Apple iPad technology into their everyday instruction to engage students and personalize learning in order to accelerate equitable student achievement. Instructional coaching as a mode of professional development has gained popularity among school districts for its job-embedded, ongoing nature (Knight, 2012). Absent from the field is an effective method of measuring the impact of coaching. In attempting to isolate a variable that is high leverage, the reflective practice of teachers was examined. The study used a teacher survey to collect data on various aspects of a coaching program and teacher reflectiveness. The use of the cohort model within higher education has produced outcomes that have been either positive and adaptive or dysfunctional and maladaptive due to the unique identities formed by cohorts. Two significant challenges confronting math educators in the United States today are overall achievement rates that lag behind many countries, and a sizeable achievement gap between White students and students of color. Research provides some explanations for these trends and ideas for reversing them, but it is rare to hear from students themselves. This qualitative phenomenological study gave voice to middle school students enrolled in lower-level math classes. The purpose of this quantitative study was to see if a statistically significant relationship existed between principal communication style and school climate as perceived by elementary teachers in high achieving Title 1 elementary schools in a Midwest state. Teacher perceptions of principal communication style were assessed using the Communication Style Inventory (CSI). The six communication styles assessed were Expressiveness, Preciseness, Verbal Aggressiveness, Questioningness, Emotionality, and Impression Manipulativeness. Leading spiritual development theories were built on the dominant population of continuing generation college students. This qualitative research explored the spirituality and spiritual development of twelve undergraduate first generation college students at two Christian, liberal arts institutions in the Midwest United States during one year of their college education. The purpose of this case study is to explore the extent to which gifted students with learning disabilities are being identified and supported by examining educators’ experience and practice. A district categorized as urban/suburban in a multi-cultural context was chosen for this single case study. Purposive sampling was used which yielded data related to the identification process and how it is implemented by administrators, teachers, and other service providers in the sample district. The purposes of this qualitative study were to (a) identify leadership characteristics of female African American principals at successful Turnaround Arts schools and (b) explore the leadership factors that allowed these principals to improve academic and behavioral outcomes among students. The theories applied in the study were self-efficacy, transformational leadership theory, and culturally sensitive educational leadership theory. The purpose of this qualitative, ethnographic study was to identify the cultural norms, beliefs, languages, values assumptions and rituals of first generation college students from rural, low socioeconomic status in order to better understand how social and cultural capital create obstacles that affect persistence in rural, low socioeconomic status students. Once students graduate from public education, the supports for individuals with disabilities change significantly. The law requiring school districts to support students with disabilities no longer applies upon graduation. As the familiar support structure no longer exists, the transition for students with disabilities is very difficult.
