The effect of modeling on the performance of rule-governed language behaviors of 208 male and female, Anglo and Chicano, sixth grade students was experimentally investigated. These students, from four elementary schools, were randomly assigned either to a no-model control group or to one of forty-eight experimental modeling groups. Live, audio-taped and written models, who were (or were characterized as) either adults or peers and Anglos or Chicanos, modeled sentences in response to twelve pictorial stimuli. The deficit approach to the verbal abilities of poor children has attempted to show that the verbal acuity of these children is extremely low or nonexistent, and that this disadvantage is a direct result of factors residing within the poor child and his environment. This study analyzed student and school characteristics in an effort to see effects these characteristics might be having on students' feelings about school structure and alienation from school. Several student characteristics were compared with feelings about school structure perceived as bureaucratic. Identification of students by ethnic groups (Chicano and Anglo), socio-economic status (high, middle and low), and students' sex were considered important indicants of students' feelings toward school bureaucracy. Other characteristics operating within students themselves were studied as possible clues to how students adapt to the school's organizational structure. The purpose of this study was to determine if biobehavioral correlates of PCM (WISC subtest) performance offered some promise in the diagnosis and prescription in the learning situation for southwest Native American students. The need for an approach of this kind was predicated on the effectiveness of current testing and labeling practices in "Indian education," and the fact that the southwest Native American student who attends off-reservation boarding schools is generally disadvantaged. Disadvantaged is defined as that state of anomie (Spilka, 1970) and poverty, malnutrition and disease, and family disorganization which char­acterizes the student population used in this study.

Iannaccone conceptualized a state’s educational political linkage pattern by formulating a typology of educational­political processes. The structure of the verb prefix system in the Navajo verb is clarified by a thorough generative phonological analysis of the morphophonemic alternations in the prefix complex. The intricate modal prefix alternations are presented in detail. Initially, an important internal boundary in the verb, the disjunct boundary, is demonstrated. The disjunct boundary is central to the formulation of a number of common phonological rules such as ni-absorption and vowel deletion, and it provides the organizing principle for a full structural statement of the mode system. The present study was an investigation of the sources of job attitudes of school superintendents. The study sample consisted of forty of the eighty-eight superintendents in the State of New Mexico. Demographic data indicated that the sample approximated the national group of school superintendents along several important dimensions, including age, experience, and formal preparation.

The purposes of this study were: (1) to change the behavior of selected children by training their mothers to implement an interaction style known as the professional response through providing corrective feedback, pointing out salient attributes, supplying elaboration and extending knowledge and (2) to assess the effects of those behavior changes on teacher-child language interactions. The Hall's movement was viewed from the context of Van Gennep's "rites of passage" and sponsorship. Van Gennep conceptualized the movement from one role to another in three stages. These stages are: (1) separation, (2) transition, and (3) incorpora­tion.
