Since the initiation of the proficiency testing program at Western Kentucky University, there had not been a comprehensive report of the performance of students who received academic credit on the basis of the American College Test as a proficiency examination. American College Test standard scores, American College Test composite scores, specific course grades, and overall grade point averages of selected students were examined to determine the effects of awarding academic credit on the basis of the American College Test standard score in English on a student's subsequent academic performance and to examine the feasibility of extending the use of the …

Development Of Guidelines Related To Auxiliary Personnel In The Public School Media Centers Of Washington State, Velma Irene Morris Koziuk

This paper presents a study of the present use of auxiliary personnel in media centers in Washington State public schools. These findings along with documents received from school districts, the review of literature, and related knowledge of the field were used as a basis for the development of guidelines relating to selecting, employing, assigning, training, and evaluating of media aides.

The proposed guidelines are presented to aid school district administrators in developing their own policies and procedures relating to media auxiliary personnel.

A re-analysis of the Situational Attitudes Scale (SAS) was conducted to investigate lts generality, validity and reliability and to suggest a more conservative method of analyzing the data. Three forms of the SAS were developed under the name Situational Attitude Inventory. Forms A and B corresponded to the originals; they tested attitudes toward whites and blacks, respectively, in varying social situations. Form c was developed to test the validity of the social situations for differentiation among alternative referents, which included welfare, age, ethnicity, and physical characteristics. This paper presents the results of a national survey of 342 four year public institutions of higher education. The survey was conducted by questionnaire. Its purpose was to determine the administrative level, educational background, and major job responsibilities of persons performing analysis of physical facility needs in colleges and universities. The survey revealed that 115 (46. 18 percent) of 249 responding institutions had such an employee. The most frequently reported job title was Campus Planner, and Bachelor's degrees in Business Administration and Education were the most common undergraduate majors. I have always maintained that at-risk students were often blamed for their lack of success, rather than supported to overcome their prior educational challenges. As a second year residence hall director I had the privilege of working in a building with two distant wings. With the support of my mentor, Dr. Eugene J. Cech, Director of Testing, we developed a residence life program designed to assist summer lower-quarter high school graduates to be successful in college. The quality of residence life does make a difference. The journal, College Student Survey, no longer appears to be published.

The purpose of this study was not to determine all those attitudes which affect a student’s decision to remain in or leave the college. It was rather to survey the attitudes and opinions of the members of a group which had already left the college before completion of their studies insofar as Central Washington College was concerned. Three factors were determined on the basis of their proximity to the lives of the students and their concomitant effect on the attitudes of those students.

It is the purpose of this study to present the results of an investigation of these entrance tests, which were given under the auspices of the Registrar's Office and the Education Department to freshmen who entered school at Western Kentucky State College in September 1948.

The problem set up is of a three-fold nature, namely:

1. To determine the value, if any, of the entrance examinations as predictive agents for college success.
2. To study the weaknesses exhibited by students on the arithmetic achievement test.
3. To suggest remedial measures for the weaknesses revealed by the arithmetic test.
