An Analysis Of A Building Bond Referendum, Daniel L. Meyer
An Analysis Of A Building Bond Referendum, Daniel L. Meyer
Masters Theses
The decision regarding student housing is one which will affect every school board and administrator. Decisions made by the people involved will affect the community for generations. Making economically feasible and educationally sound decisions regarding student housing is most difficult, especially when one considers many of the variables involved with decisions of this type. Some of the variables researched for this successful building bond referendum were: enrollment patterns, birth rates, cohort survival rates for the district and enrollment projections.
The researcher was involved with the facility study committee during the period of time the information was being collected. Once the …

This has been the traditional method of educational instruction.
One of the major responsibilities of the principal is that of educational leader in instruction. The effective principal must be constantly in search of methods of improving instruction.

The Need, Development And Implementation Of A Student/Parent Handbook For Warrensburg-Latham High School, Roger T. Mitchell
Masters Theses
The project selected for completion of my degree evolved from numerous situations experienced during my first year as Assistant Principal at Warrensburg-Latham High School, where I was primarily responsible for dealing with student discipline.
Early in the school year it became evident that the existing student handbook was not as diverse or explicit as I felt should be necessary. In continual discussions with the principal it was concluded that a new student handbook should be implemented for the following school term. I operated through the remainder of the 1978-79 school year with the existing laminated folder type handbook, which consistently …
Administrative Internship, Mt. Zion Community School District #3, James D. Price
Administrative Internship, Mt. Zion Community School District #3, James D. Price
Masters Theses
Ideally, the best approach to learning administration for educational institutions is to observe the work of administrators in the field. While it is overly pretentious to advocate ascertaining all functions of one office, it is possible to develop a working knowledge of the primary responsibilities involved in several positions, namely, the central office administration.
Under the direction of the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent, and the Director of Guidance for Mt. Zion Schools this writer has acquired such working knowledge. Although the basic theory for role development of each of these positions is transmitted in this paper, it is …

The Transportation Program In Illinois School Districts, Lenard A. Defend
Masters Theses
This field study, which is an examination of the transportation program in a local school district in Illinois, gives special attention to what is expected of a local district by the state of Illinois. Many of those expectations are found in the school code as regulations for the local school district in its transportation program.
Though this field experience, which was done in the Shelbyville Community Unit Schools during the fall semester, 1979, is a summary of transportation practices in one school district, it does contain information of a general nature which may be of interest. Much of the information …

The Positive Approach: In-School Alternatives To Suspension, Gary Bryan Layton
Masters Theses
The purpose of this field experience was to develop what the writer felt would be the major areas or components of a workable program concerned with in-school alternatives to suspension. Upon completion of the development of the eleven components of the alternative program to suspension, the writer chose to entitle the program, The Positive Approach, In-School Alternatives to Suspension.
Due to the large number of out-of-school suspensions in school systems each year, and the widespread disillusion with out-of-school suspension as a disciplinary procedure, school administrators are beginning to develop in-school alternative programs to suspension.
The instituting of an in-school alternative …

The Development Of A Student Handbook For The Argenta-Oreana Middle School, Michael Schmitz
The Development Of A Student Handbook For The Argenta-Oreana Middle School, Michael Schmitz
Masters Theses
The development of a student handbook for the Middle School students of the Argenta-Oreana School District was the object of this particular field study. The handbook previously used by the students was merely an overview of the rules and regulations and was definitely lacking in detail and explanation. Our high school has a student handbook, but the distinct differences between the operation of the high school and the middle school would not permit the use of the same handbook for both buildings. It was through experiences of my four years of employment as middle school principal, directives from the board …

An Outline Of The Procedures To Reduce Budget Expenditures In The Edwards County Community Unit School District No. 1 For The 1978-79 Fiscal Year, Gary J. Schurz
Masters Theses
The purpose of this study was to discover ways to reduce expenditures in the budget of the Edwards County Community Unit School District No. 1 for the 1978-79 fiscal year in the light of a projected loss of revenues complicated by inflationary trends.
The need arose due to three factors:
- A loss of a portion of the district's state aid due to a previous overpayment.
- A rise in the assessed valuation which would mean an additional loss of state aid: It was projected that local monies collected would not offset the loss of state aid.
- Spiraling inflation was creating an …
The Preparation Of A Student Handbook, Kenneth L. Miller
The Preparation Of A Student Handbook, Kenneth L. Miller
Masters Theses
The purpose of the field study project was to develop a functional student handbook for use at Crestwood School in Paris, Illinois. Crestwood School is a kindergarten through 8th grade elementary school and the initial intention was to produce a handbook for use at all nine grade levels. As the project took form, however, differences between the needs for grades K-5 and 6-8 became extensive to the point that it became obvious that separate handbooks would be required to fulfill the desired purposes. This project became, then, the production of the handbook for the middle school (6-8) grades.
Handbooks currently …

The main purpose of the field study is to provide a schedule for maintaining and refurbishing the junior-senior high school building for the school years of 1979, 1980, and 1981.
The field study is divided into four chapters. The first chapter conservatively predicts the assessed valuation that the school district can …

The Development Of A Board Policy Manual For The Edwards County Community Unit School District Number One, Mickey Roger Wright
Masters Theses
The purpose of this field study was to develop a comprehensive, codified policy manual for the Edwards County Community Unit School District #1. Until the field study was completed, the district's policy manual was very sketchy and next to impossible to find a particular item since it lacked a proper coding system, page numbers, and index.
The problem was to point out to the Board of Education the advantages of written policies and the need for a comprehensive, codified policy manual in their district. The study goes into a short narrative on the advantages of written policies and the need …

The Administrative Procedures Surrounding Computer Scheduling At M.L. King Junior High, Diedrus U'Vonne Brown
Masters Theses
The use of a computer system to schedule students in a junior high school was the subject of this particular field study. This process has only been used for one year at Martin L. King Junior High School, and the administrative procedures surrounding this had not yet been spelled out, especially in specific terms. It was through observations and conferences with the principal, administrative assistant, and TIES (Total Informational Educational Service) personnel, that I felt a need to look more closely into the scheduling process and develop some guidelines for the administrator to follow.
The creation of this study was …

Retention In Salem Elementary Schools, Charles M. Raglin
Retention In Salem Elementary Schools, Charles M. Raglin
Masters Theses
Social or chronological promotion has long been a practice of the public schools of the United States. The alternative, nonpromotion or retention, has in the opinion of most psychologists and sociologists led to emotional and sociological trauma for the child. Another and probably the most cogent objection, is many parents oppose nonpromotion and are unwilling to accept the social stigma of "flunking." Children's achievement is a status symbol which profoundly affects families in many communities.
The writer contends that unless parents are directly involved in the decision early in the nonpromotion year, retention will not culminate in satisfactory achievement. Cooperation …
