Public school teachers in the State of Colorado are required to complete 45 hours of English language development (ELD) training to ensure that they are properly supporting the English learners in their school. AbstractAt-risk high school students had low literacy and mathematics proficiency state test scores for the past 6 consecutive years in one suburban public school district in the Northern United States. In 2016, school administrators implemented supplemental education services (SES) to help these students to improve their performance on state tests. Low African American male student graduation rates in the United States have been a concern for higher education administrators, and more strategies to address their challenges are needed. This basic qualitative study addressed the experiences of African American male students who persisted to graduation at a predominantly Black institution in the northeastern United States. This study focuses on one such tool, Play Lu Interactive Technology (PLIT), and analyzes how students’ math achievement on standardized test scores differs between students who have used PLIT and students who have not.
