Identifying Quality Mentoring Based On New Teacher Perceptions Of Professional Development, Patti Secret Goldsmith Roberts

Despite the fact that new teacher mentoring had its inception in the late 1960's and is currently mandated in schools and districts across the country, there are still questions as to whether effectiveness has been obtained (Keay, 2007). Stewart (2004) arrived at a definition of "quality mentoring" based on five areas of support (i.e., Personal Support, Classroom Support, Professional Support, Evaluative Support, and Reflective Support), and her research provides definition to the kind of support that mentees desire and need.

Year-Round Calendars At The High School Level, Matthew Nohner

Mathematics Graduate Theses

The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of a year round calendar on math scores at the high school level. Students forget facts, especially math facts, over long extended breaks. Year round calendars aim to address this dilemma by minimizing long breaks from learning. The results of year round calendars have been mixed. Some schools have reported both academic and monetary gains after switching from a traditional calendar, while other schools have seen modest gains in student learning. At the request of the Chelsea Public Schools, the Collins Center conducted an analysis of the school health services delivery system. The research included: (1) Review of City and School documents, (2) Interviews and on‐site visits, (3) Review of related research, and (4) Conversations with other experts. Like most urban school systems, Chelsea is facing the challenges of increased educational, social, and health care needs of its students and dwindling financial resources. Appreciative Accreditation: A Mixed Methods Explanatory Study Of Appreciative Inquiry-Based Institutional Effectiveness Results In Higher Education, John Thibodeau

Department of Educational Administration: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

This study examined the effects of using Appreciative Inquiry in accreditation and related institutional effectiveness activities within higher education.  Using an explanatory participant-selection mixed methods approach, qualitative data from a series of interviews were used to explain the experiences of individuals identified from quantitative survey results.  Appreciative Inquiry is a theoretical framework for action research, organizational development, and evaluation that emphasizes the positive aspects of human systems.  In recent years, Appreciative Inquiry has been applied specifically to improvement activities associated with regional accreditation, such as the Vital Focus self-assessment that precedes the transition to the Higher Learning Commission's AQIP process. …

Academic Library Directors' Perceptions Of Joining A Large Library Consortium Sharing An Integrated Library System: A Descriptive Survey, Dennis Krieb

The collective holdings of CARLI’s (Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois) “I-Share” catalog total approximately 32 million items.  It is the third largest academic catalog in the United States, however only 76 of CARLI’s 148 academic libraries participate in I-Share.  This descriptive survey examined the factors that influenced a CARLI academic library director’s decision to join, or not join, I-Share’s integrated library system.  Seventy-seven of the 145 CARLI library directors sampled completed the web-based survey.  This represented a 53.1% response rate.
