The Utilization Of Gender, Retention, Ses And Steep Scores To Predict Reading Mastery, Lisa Lee Adams
The Utilization Of Gender, Retention, Ses And Steep Scores To Predict Reading Mastery, Lisa Lee Adams
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between gender, retention, SES and STEEP scores to predict reading mastery. Second grade students’ records were reviewed to obtain demographic information. SAT 9 scores were used to measure students' reading mastery. SES was measured and defined by approved applications for free or reduced lunch for the 2004-2005 school year. Retention was defined as the number of students previously retained. Logistic regression was used to determine the predictive validity of gender, retention, SES and STEEP scores dependent on SAT 9 reading mastery. Gender, retention, SES and STEEP scores were entered as …
Factors Present At Enrollment Of College Freshmen That Predict Placement In Developmental Courses At Select Private Institutions, Mary Ann Thorn
Factors Present At Enrollment Of College Freshmen That Predict Placement In Developmental Courses At Select Private Institutions, Mary Ann Thorn
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Attrition of college freshmen due, in part, to the lack of academic preparedness upon enrolling in college is an issue facing college and university administrators. Chief academic officers cannot ignore the fact that 30% of all students enrolling in postsecondary institutions require some form of “developmental” coursework. Institutional leaders need to be aware of predictors that determine the student’s need for enrollment in developmental courses and factors that influence student persistence. Administrators must focus on both the characteristics and experiences of students prior to college, as well as their experiences inside the classroom, and how these variables interrelate. To understand …

Knowing When A Higher Education Institution Is In Trouble, Pamela S. Sturm
Knowing When A Higher Education Institution Is In Trouble, Pamela S. Sturm
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This study investigates factors that measure the institutional viability of higher education organizations. The purpose of investigating these measures is to provide higher education officials with a means to predict the likelihood of the closure of a higher education institution. In this way, these viability measures can be used by administrators as a warning system for corrective action to ensure the continued viability of their institutions.
An Analysis Of The Degree Of Transformational Leadership Exhibited By Administrators Of 1862 And 1890 Cooperative Extension Programs In States With Both Systems As A Predictor For The Attainment Of State Match In Federal Fiscal Year 2004, Ray Ali
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This study analyzed the degree of transformational leadership exhibited by 1862 and 1890 cooperative extension administrators in states with both extension systems as a predictor for the attainment of state match in federal fiscal year 2004. An additional focus of this study was to analyze institution type, sex, age, and years of experience as predictors for the attainment of state match in federal fiscal year 2004. The population of the study consisted of 1862 and 1890 cooperative extension program administrators in states containing both 1862 and 1890 institutions, N=110. Participants completed the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) originally developed by Bernard …

Successful Implementation Of 504 Plans : What Are The Common Elements?, Eugenia Damron
Successful Implementation Of 504 Plans : What Are The Common Elements?, Eugenia Damron
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The objective of this qualitative research was to study the implementation of successful 504 Plans. Five students were determined to have successful plans based on parent and teacher perceptions as well as school achievement. The parents, teachers, administrators, and five students with successful 504 Plans participated in this study. Findings determined that there were four common factors in successful 504 Plans: communication, parental involvement, necessary accommodations, and student’s willingness to work. Other factors unique to some of the cases (extended family, support services, and medication) also played a role in the success some students achieved.

The Relationship Between Levels Of Moral Reasoning And Transformational Leadership Behaviors Of West Virginia Public School Administrators, Cynthia L. Daniel
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between levels of moral reasoning and the use of transformational leadership behaviors of public school administrators in West Virginia. The Defining Issues Test-2 was used to measure levels of moral reasoning. Transformational leadership behaviors were measured by the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire 5x. The population for the study consisted of 55 superintendents; 62 deputy, assistant, or associate superintendents and 250 randomly selected principals. A total of 103 administrators participated in the study. A one-shot case study design was used. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation, T-Test for independent samples, and one-way analysis …

Creating Time For Research At Marshall University, Deanna Mader, Chong W. Kim
Creating Time For Research At Marshall University, Deanna Mader, Chong W. Kim
Management Faculty Research
Creating time for research is important, yet difficult. Creating large blocks of dedicated research time is nearly impossible. It is critical, therefore, that the institution encourages all levels to work in a coordinated effort to assist faculty in accessing those precious minutes and smaller blocks of time. At the departmental level the Management and Marketing Division conducts a Research and Teaching (R&T) Forum six to eight times per academic year. The forum allows the division’s 28 faculty members to brainstorm, find areas of similar interests, combine research efforts, and present a “test run” before submission to a journal or conference. …
