Using data derived from a real-time focus group experience, this session will address strategies for improving retention and recruitment of minority faculty members and students at institutions of higher education. This focus group was comprised of alumni minority students from a rural university. The questions for this group were composed by faculty members trying to ascertain the perceptions of the minority students. The data collected provided answers to the proposed questions, but revealed information validating the experiences of other minority stakeholder groups and the impact to programs. As more students are moved from self-contained to inclusive classroom environments general educators will need the capacity to meet all students’ needs. The purpose of this qualitative case study explored how school personnel (school psychologists, intervention specialists, and general educators) perceived the influence of Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) on classroom behavior. This exploration was guided by the behaviorism theoretical framework. Behaviorism as a theoretic framework for FBA considers what is directly happening in the environment from an antecedent or external stimulus-response perspective. Adding to the body of OER available allows faculty to rethink every aspect of what they teach and refine how they present that information. The purpose of this study was to assess inclusive practices in Head Start preschool classrooms. In 1972, Public Law PL 94-242 mandated Head Start enrollment to include 10% of students with disabilities (Allen & Cowdery, 2009). Research on assessment of inclusive practices within Head Start preschool classrooms is limited (Gallagher & Lambert, 2006; Muccio, 2012).

This study implemented a quantitative, descriptive design approach. Correlational analysis was conducted to explore answers to the research questions according to access, participation, and supports constructs (DEC/NAEYC, 2009). The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of discipline formats on student development and analyze if the practice of restorative justice can decrease the school to prison pipeline. Does criminalizing every discrepancy against the law create better law-abiding citizens? Is the zero-tolerance policy change an effective mechanism for school discipline? Do restorative justice practices reduce the school to prison pipeline? To investigate this, the infraction rates at various high schools have been observed in regard to their discipline practices to analyze the number of incidences that students incur and how they were managed.

The founder’s passion for braille led to the creation of the program See3D, which organizes the printing and distribution of 3D printed models for people who are blind. 3D prints such as DNA, cells, animals, constellations, telescopes, historic landmarks, logos, and maps were created to fulfill requests by people who are blind for tactile learning tools. Deaf/hard-of-hearing (Deaf and hard-of-hearing) postsecondary students may have some misconceptions surrounding scientific concepts that might be partially ascribed to a lack of access to culturally-responsive forms of pedagogy. The Deaf and hard-of-hearing community is diverse in communication modes, including those who use American Sign Language as their primary language, and therefore, some students from this population may display characteristics similar to English Language Learners. This study investigated the relationship between eight teaching characteristics that have been classified into two categories: the supportive presentation style (SPS) and the Excessive Lesson Demands (ELD) and six academic emotions (enjoyment, pride, anxiety, anger, helplessness, and boredom) acquired by students in classes.
