The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of journal writing on eight seventh grade math students’ understanding of rational numbers in a public school in South Carolina. The literature on mathematical understanding and achievement suggests that students should be taught to write about their mathematical thinking to learn the concepts or reasons behind the procedure to consistently and accurately perform operations with rational numbers (Countryman, 1992; Anderson & Little, 2004; Borasi & Rose, 1989; Ganguli, 1989; Johanning, 2000; Lim & Pugalee, 2004; McCormick, 2010; McIntosh & Draper, 2001; Miller, 1991).

This action research study examined the way in which integrating technology into a second grade ELA classroom impacted levels of student engagement. Research investigated utilizing various technological tools to meet learning goals and objectives in the classroom, and determined the impact on student engagement as perceived by the students and classroom teacher. The study employed a mixed-methods approach of data collecting. The researcher collected and recorded data twice a week for six weeks. This action research study describes the influence of task-based instruction on English Language Learner (ELL) motivation in a seventh grade inclusion classroom. This research study was grounded in a theoretical framework that involved inclusion education, ELLs, task-based instruction (Willis, 1996), and the ARCS Model of Motivation (Keller, 2008). The purpose of the present Action Research study was to describe a class of southern, suburban, high school band student-participants’ perceptions of a jazz performance of an arrangement by the researcher that is a Duke Ellington adaptation of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite. Student-participants’ perceptions were gathered using a modified Fennema-Sherman Attitude Scale in the form of a pre-test and a post-test to determine any changes in attitudes towards jazz performance. The present qualitative Action Research study was conducted to determine students’ perceptions of current teacher grading practices and how a standards-based grading (SBG) report card affected secondary students’ perceptions and understanding of grade fairness and accuracy compared to a standard report card, which reports a single grade that often combines academic achievement with behaviors, attendance, homework completion, deadlines and the like. Faculty Perceptions Of Teaching Information Literacy To First-Year Students: A Phenomenographic Study, Lorna M. Dawes

This study examines faculty perceptions of teaching information literacy and explores the influence of these perceptions on pedagogy. The study adopted an inductive phenomenographic approach, using 24 semi-structured interviews with faculty teaching first-year courses at an American public research university. The results of the study reveal four qualitative ways in which faculty experience teaching information use to first year students that vary within three themes of expanding awareness. The resulting outcome space revealed that faculty had two distinct conceptions of teaching information literacy: (1) Teaching to produce experienced consumers of information, and (2) Teaching to cultivate intelligent participants in discourse …

Throughout Australia, many government and non-government schools have implemented a one-laptop-per-student (1:1) policy. Whilst there was initial interest in the implementation of these programs, little has been done to track the uptake of digital learning technologies afforded by access to the laptops. This study examined pre-service teachers’ reflections on their experiences with 1:1 laptop programs in their secondary schooling. The lens for this reflection was their consideration of their aspirational teaching practice. The purpose of this paper is to examine trainee primary school teachers’ confidence in their mathematical content knowledge (MCK) and confidence to teach specific primary mathematics concepts (mathematics pedagogical content knowledge –MPCK) which was correlated to their actual MCK on specific tasks. For this correlational study survey and test data were collected from a cohort of 210 trainee teachers. It was found that confidence to do and to teach mathematics was reasonably strongly correlated with competence. Recent curriculum reform in history in Australia promotes ‘historical understanding’ through discipline-based teaching practice. However, many middle school teachers are new to the scope of historical knowledge and skills required. This paper reports on a case study of five Queensland teachers in one secondary school who undertook a school-based trial of the Year 8 Australian Curriculum: History in 2012 - 2013. Drawing on notions of historical consciousness and frameworks for curriculum alignment, the case study indicates that the intent of the stated curriculum to develop concepts of ‘historical understanding’ is undermined by two factors – first, teachers' inadequate knowledge of …

Consumer, economic and financial literacy education at school is central to active and informed citizenship. Over the past decade, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission has led various policy initiatives and influenced curriculum and resource development in this area. Ongoing developments in e-learning, improved internet accessibility and increased digital citizenry provide exciting opportunities to integrate effective classroom pedagogies with online educational technologies, creating mixed-mode courses to enhance student engagement and facilitate greater autonomous learning. This research examines pre-service teacher education students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of experiential and digitally-mediated tools which take them beyond the constraints of traditional lecture-type delivery. This paper explores teachers’ and teacher assistants’ self-efficacy of delivering PrepSTART, a classroom based, oral language and early literacy program for five-year-old students. In the current study, speech pathologists developed, provided training and monitored program implementation. Teachers and teacher assistants (n = 17) shared their experiences of delivering PrepSTART through a series of focus groups. A content analysis was conducted to determine key themes in participant responses. These themes were then analysed in relation to the four self-efficacy components (mastery, experience, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion and emotional arousal). This study investigates and compares elements of creativity in secondary schools and classrooms in Australia and Singapore. Statistical analysis and qualitative investigation of teacher, student and leadership perceptions of the emergence, fostering and absence of creativity in school learning environments is explored. This large-scale international study (n=717) reveals the impact of teacher behaviours, teaching environments and school leadership approaches that promote and impede the enhancement of creative, critical, and innovative thinking, organisation, and curriculum structures. English Classrooms And Curricular Justice For The Recognition Of Lgbt Individuals: What Can Teachers Do?, Jane Pearce, Wendy Cumming-Potvin
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
Discrimination against LGBT[1] individuals remains widespread across Australia. Since schools continue to promote regimes of heterosexuality and cis-normativity, teachers have a crucial role in creating contexts in which LGBT young people feel accepted and safe. Drawing on North’s (2006) work on social justice and Connell’s (2012) discussion of curricular justice, this article explores opportunities and constraints experienced by a group of English secondary teachers attempting to practise in socially just ways. Results indicate that through the English curriculum, it is possible for teachers to find moments to achieve social justice for LGBT individuals.

The purpose of this study was to investigate how science teachers in Trinidad and Tobago use ICT-based instructional technologies in classroom science teaching. The participants were 30 secondary school science teachers who completed their Postgraduate Diploma in Education within the last 2 years from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. The teachers were asked to prepare lesson plans which demonstrate their use of instructional technologies to teach science topics within their term’s schemes of work. This paper summarizes the findings from the first phase of a three-part project which, overall, investigates what Aboriginal1 students perceive as the qualities and actions of effective teachers and subsequently seeks to determine the impact of the enactment of these identified qualities on educational outcomes. This first phase of the research was centered on gathering accounts of quality teachers and teaching practice from students, parents and their teachers from phenomenologically aligned interviews. Results from a number of studies indicate that the use of head-mounted displays can influence spatial visualization ability; however, research provides inconsistent results. Considering this, a quasi-experimental study was conducted to identify the existence of statistically significant effects on rotational view drawing ability due to the impacts of the displays. การวิจัยและพัฒนานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อพัฒนารูปแบบการเรียนการสอนตามแนวคิดการเรียนรู้แบบสืบสอบ ร่วมกับแนวคิดการให้ข้อมูลป้อนกลับแบบ 360 องศา เพื่อส่งเสริมความสามารถในการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษเชิงโต้แย้งของนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาบัณฑิต การดำเนินงานแบ่งเป็น 4 ระยะ คือ ระยะที่ 1 การศึกษาข้อมูลพื้นฐานเพื่อใช้ในการพัฒนารูปแบบการเรียนการสอน ระยะที่ 2 การพัฒนารูปแบบการเรียนการสอนตามแนวคิดการเรียนรู้แบบสืบสอบ ร่วมกับแนวคิดการให้ข้อมูลป้อนกลับแบบ 360 องศา เพื่อส่งเสริมความสามารถในการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษเชิงโต้แย้งของนักศึกษาระดับปริญญาบัณฑิต ระยะที่ 3 การประเมินประสิทธิผลของรูปแบบการเรียนการสอนที่พัฒนาขึ้น โดยนำไปทดลองใช้กับนักศึกษากลุ่มตัวอย่างซึ่งเป็นนักศึกษาชั้นปีที่ 2 วิชาเอกภาษาอังกฤษ คณะศิลปศาสตร์ ของมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งหนึ่ง จำนวน 36 คน โดยใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบเฉพาะเจาะจง ใช้ระยะเวลาในการทดลอง 10 สัปดาห์ สัปดาห์ละ 3 ชั่วโมง และระยะที่ 4 การนำเสนอรูปแบบการเรียนการสอนฉบับสมบูรณ์ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัย ได้แก่ แบบทดสอบความสามารถในการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษเชิงโต้แย้ง และเกณฑ์ในการประเมินการเขียนภาษาอังกฤษเชิงโต้แย้ง สถิติที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูล ได้แก่ ค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และค่าที (dependent t-test และ independent t-test) ผลการวิจัยพบว่า 1. รูปแบบการเรียนการสอน ประกอบด้วยหลักการ 5 ข้อ ได้แก่ 1) การเรียนรู้เกิดจากการที่ผู้เรียนถูกกระตุ้นให้เกิดความสงสัยหรือเกิดความขัดแย้งทางปัญญา แล้วแสวงหาคำตอบจากแหล่งข้อมูลต่าง ๆ โดยใช้วิจารณญาณในการคิดและคัดเลือกข้อมูลด้วยตนเองเพื่อให้ได้ข้อสรุปความรู้หรือคำตอบ 2) การมีประสบการณ์ในการสังเกต วิเคราะห์ เปรียบเทียบ ตรวจสอบ และวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ข้อมูลความรู้หรือความคิดช่วยให้ผู้เรียนมีความเข้าใจที่ชัดเจนในสิ่งที่เรียนรู้ มีมุมมองการคิดสร้างสรรค์ผลงานที่หลากหลาย และส่งเสริมกลยุทธ์ทางปัญญาของผู้เรียน ซึ่งส่งผลให้ผู้เรียนสามารถพัฒนาการเรียนรู้ของตนเองได้ดีขึ้น 3) การสะท้อนคิดและการเชื่อมโยงความรู้หรือความคิดที่ค้นพบและได้รับจากรอบด้าน ช่วยให้ผู้เรียนมีกระบวนการคิดที่เป็นระบบ 4) การเรียนรู้ผ่านกระบวนการให้ข้อมูลป้อนกลับที่มีหลายมิติช่วยเสริมต่อการเรียนรู้ ผู้เรียนได้ประเมินความรู้ความสามารถทั้งของตนเองและผู้อื่น ตระหนักถึงข้อดีข้อบกพร่องของผลงาน ได้สังเคราะห์ความรู้และมีมุมมองความคิดที่หลากหลายไปใช้ในการพัฒนาการเรียนรู้และผลงาน 5) การประยุกต์ใช้ข้อมูลความรู้เดิมและความรู้ใหม่ไปใช้ในการทำงานในสถานการณ์ต่าง ๆ ได้อย่างสมเหตุสมผล ช่วยขยายหรือปรับเปลี่ยนโครงสร้างความคิดหรือความรู้ของผู้เรียน และช่วยพัฒนาการคิดในการเขียนให้มีประสิทธิภาพ โดยมี 4 ขั้นตอนหลัก ได้แก่ ขั้นตอนที่ 1 การกระตุ้นความสงสัย ขั้นตอนที่ 2 การวางแผนการสร้างความรู้ใหม่ ขั้นตอนที่ …

การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาสภาพการจัดการเรียนการสอนกิจกรรมลูกเสือสามัญ ระดับประถมศึกษา และนำเสนอแนวทางการจัดการเรียนการสอนกิจกรรมลูกเสือสามัญ ระดับประถมศึกษา ใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงบรรยาย เก็บข้อมูลโดยใช้การวิจัยเชิงสำรวจ กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่ใช้คือ ครูผู้สอนกิจกรรมลูกเสือสามัญ ระดับประถมศึกษา จำนวน 660 คน จาก 220 โรงเรียน ในสังกัดสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน โดยใช้วิธีการสุ่มแบบหลายขั้นตอน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถาม การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้สถิติบรรยายและการวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ (1) สภาพการจัดการเรียนการสอนกิจกรรมลูกเสือสามัญ ระดับประถมศึกษา ครูส่วนใหญ่กำหนดวัตถุประสงค์การเรียนรู้เพื่อพัฒนาร่างกาย จิตใจ สติปัญญา และสังคม ให้เป็นพลเมืองดีของชาติ ครูกำหนดเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับคำปฏิญาณและกฎของลูกเสือ ระเบียบแถว และการผจญภัยและค่ายพักแรม ครูจัดกิจกรรมที่ส่งเสริมความจงรักภักดีต่อชาติ ศาสนา พระมหากษัตริย์ ครูวัดและประเมินผลการเรียนรู้ด้วยวิธีการที่หลากหลาย (2) แนวทางการจัดการเรียนการสอนกิจกรรมลูกเสือสามัญ ระดับประถมศึกษา ประกอบด้วย ด้านการกำหนดวัตถุประสงค์การเรียนรู้ ครูควรมุ่งเน้นการพัฒนาระเบียบวินัย คุณธรรม และการนำความรู้ไปใช้ ด้านการกำหนดเนื้อหาสาระการเรียนรู้ ครูควรกำหนดเนื้อหาวิชาบังคับตามหลักสูตรไว้ในภาคเรียนที่ 1 และกำหนดเนื้อหาวิชาพิเศษไว้ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ด้านวิธีการจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ ครูควรจัดกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ที่ให้ผู้เรียนเรียนรู้จากสถานการณ์จริง และมีเวลาเรียนอย่างน้อย 1 คาบต่อสัปดาห์ โดยใช้วิธีการที่หลากหลาย เช่น วิธีการสอนลูกเสือ 10 วิธี การใช้ระบบหมู่ การเรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์ตรง และการจัดกิจกรรมกลางแจ้ง และด้านการวัดและประเมินผลการเรียนรู้ ครูควรวัดและประเมินผลจากการเข้าร่วมกิจกรรมลูกเสือ มีการประเมินทั้งภาคทฤษฎีและปฏิบัติ ด้วยวิธีการที่หลากหลายและชัดเจน
กระบวนการเรียนการสอนเพื่อส่งเสริมความสามารถในการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทยสำหรับนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น: การถอดบทเรียนจากศิลปินแห่งชาติ สาขาศิลปะการแสดง (ดนตรีไทย), อุทัย ศาสตรา

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ 1) ศึกษาและพัฒนากระบวนการเรียนการสอนเพื่อส่งเสริมความสามารถในการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทยสำหรับนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น โดยใช้ข้อความรู้จากการถอดบทเรียนจากศิลปินแห่งชาติเป็นฐาน 2) ศึกษาผลของการใช้กระบวนการเรียนการสอนที่พัฒนาขึ้น การดำเนินการแบ่งเป็น 4 ระยะ ได้แก่ 1) การถอดบทเรียนเกี่ยวกับการส่งเสริมความสามารถในการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทยจากศิลปินแห่งชาติ สาขาศิลปะการแสดง (ดนตรีไทย) จำนวน 5 ท่าน โดยใช้การเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพ ด้วยวิธีการถอดบทเรียนแบบเล่าเรื่อง 2) การพัฒนากระบวนการเรียนการสอนเพื่อส่งเสริมความสามารถในการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทยสำหรับนักเรียนระดับมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้น โดยใช้ข้อความรู้จากการถอดบทเรียนจากศิลปินแห่งชาติ 3) การศึกษาผลของการใช้กระบวนการเรียนการสอนที่พัฒนาขึ้น และ 4) การนำเสนอกระบวนการเรียนการสอนฉบับสมบูรณ์ กลุ่มเป้าหมายที่ใช้ในการทดลองใช้กระบวนการเรียนการสอน คือ นักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 3 โรงเรียนสาธิตจุฬาลงกรณ์มหาวิทยาลัย ฝ่ายมัธยม จำนวน 35 คน ระยะเวลาทดลอง 1 ภาคการศึกษา เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูล ได้แก่ 1) แบบประเมินการสร้างสรรค์ทำนองเพลงไทย และ 2) แบบประเมินผลงานการสร้างสรรค์ทำนองเพลงไทย วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลการถอดบทเรียนโดยการตีความและการสร้างข้อสรุปแบบอุปนัย และวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลผลการทดลองใช้กระบวนการเรียนการสอนที่พัฒนาขึ้นโดยใช้สถิติค่าเฉลี่ย ส่วนเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน และการทดสอบค่าที (Paired samples t-test) ผลการวิจัยสรุปได้ดังนี้ 1. ข้อความรู้จากการถอดบทเรียนศิลปินแห่งชาติเกี่ยวกับการส่งเสริมความสามารถในการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทย ด้านหลักการสอนมี 5 ประการ ได้แก่ 1) การฝึกบรรเลงทำนองหลักของเพลงไทย 2) การสร้างความรู้พื้นฐานเกี่ยวกับการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทย 3) การนำเสนอตัวอย่างการสร้างสรรค์ทำนองเพลงไทยที่หลากหลาย 4) การจัดโอกาสให้ผู้เรียนได้สร้างสรรค์ทำนองเพลงไทยด้วยตัวเองอย่างสม่ำเสมอ และ 5) การจัดประสบการณ์ในการฟังเพลงไทยที่หลากหลายอย่างสม่ำเสมอ ทั้งนี้ กระบวนการเรียนการสอนที่พัฒนาขึ้น โดยใช้ข้อความรู้จากการถอดบทเรียนจากศิลปินแห่งชาติ ประกอบด้วย 2 ระยะ คือ ระยะที่ 1 การเตรียมความพร้อมสำหรับการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทย มี 2 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 1.1) ขั้นฝึกบรรเลงทำนองหลักของเพลงไทย และ 1.2) ขั้นสร้างความรู้พื้นฐานสำหรับการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทย ระยะที่ 2 การพัฒนาความสามารถในการสร้างสรรค์ดนตรีไทย มี 4 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 2.1) ขั้นเรียนรู้การสร้างสรรค์ทำนองเพลงไทยจากต้นแบบ 2.2) …
