Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' knowledge and attitudes pertaining to sex education courses. Specifically, the following questions were posed relative to the student's sex and his/her sex education background (in school):
1. How accurately will senior high school students match a given list of eleven sex topics with their respective standard definitions as stated in The Encyclopedia of Sexual Behavior? 2. Given a list of sex topics and a second list of possible sources of information, what "first" sources of sex information will most frequently be identified by senior high school students? 3. To …

A Comparison Of A Student Generated And A Teacher Directed Sixth Grade Social Studies Course, James Joseph Walker
All Master's Theses
This paper presents a test of the effectiveness of a largely student generated sixth grade social studies program in comparison to a teacher generated conventional program. Pupil achievement levels, attitude toward social studies, and behavioral ratings in various areas related to the study of social studies were measured and statistically or graphicly analyzed.
Recommendations included further studies eliminating the uncontrolled variables of this study and allowing for longer time periods with larger samples as well as a longitudinal study.
An Experimental Study Of Two Audio-Visual Aids Used In Beginning Drafting, Ronald Norman West
An Experimental Study Of Two Audio-Visual Aids Used In Beginning Drafting, Ronald Norman West
All Master's Theses
This paper presents a study designed to identify the effectiveness of two visual aids, the chalkboard, and the overhead projector, as they are used in a junior high drafting program. The students involved in the study were randomly selected and placed in two treatment groups and one control group. The experiment did not prove that either visual aid was better than the other, but indicated that the overhead projector had more advantages and greater versatility than the chalkboard.
Assessing The Effectiveness Of An Experimental Method Of Presentation Of The Sullivan Mathematics Program, Harry L. Carthum
Assessing The Effectiveness Of An Experimental Method Of Presentation Of The Sullivan Mathematics Program, Harry L. Carthum
All Master's Theses
This study compared the effectiveness of a revised presentation method with the standard presentation format of the Sullivan Mathematics Program. Using two measures of achievement gains, a comparison of results revealed no significant difference between the experimental and the standard methods. The study was limited by the use of a highly inferential standardized achievement test, and possibly, by the "Hawthorne" effect.

An Experimental Project For Individualizing Instruction On The Ibm Composer, James P. Cox
Graduate Research Papers
The purpose of this study was the design, development, and evaluation of a coordinated software-hardware system designed to provide instruction in the basic skills and knowledge required to successfully operate the IBM Selectric Composer. More specifically, the purpose was to develop a software packet designed around the LearningActivity Package concept, and to place these materials in a study carrel with all the necessary equipment including the IBM Composer. The study carrel (hardware), the Learning Activity Packages (software), and the IBM Composer (three dimensional activities) were coordinated into a total instructional system. A Comparison Of Traditional And Operant Conditioning Methods In Classroom Management For The Teaching Of Arithmetic In The Junior High School, William P. Rudberg
A Comparison Of Traditional And Operant Conditioning Methods In Classroom Management For The Teaching Of Arithmetic In The Junior High School, William P. Rudberg
All Master's Theses
The effects of a token reinforcement program where points were exchanged for free time in an "average" public school seventh grade arithmetic class was studied using two groups.
The experimental group mean scores for percent correct on worksheets were the only ones that made a significant gain. The percent correct on worksheets was the only variable reinforced. There was a significant difference in favor of the control group on percent correct on worksheet tests and rates on worksheets.
There was no significant difference on the pre-test nor on the post-test in achievement as measure by grade equivalents in computation on …

A Comparison Of Two Methods Of Teaching Drawing To High-School Students, Olive Wittman
A Comparison Of Two Methods Of Teaching Drawing To High-School Students, Olive Wittman
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In order to gain some evidence as to what difference the use of some particular instructional methods would make, an experiment was carried out. The experiment reported in this study is an example of a small investigation which an in-service art teacher can make, along with his regular teaching. It compared the effects of two instructional methods or to different teacher behaviors, on the students, in teaching drawing. Two classes of students were taught drawing by the same instructor who deliberately modified the degree of "directiveness" used in his teaching. In the "directed" group the teacher employed a strict instructor-controlled …
