The purposes of this study are (1) to provide information about the vital part that music has played in the Polynesian cultures of Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, and New Zealand, (2) to present in written form heretofore unpublished children's songs and dances from the five principal cultures of Polynesia, and (3) to provide explanatory material on the use of these songs.

The lack of a handbook in the schools of the Marshalls District has resulted in valuable information and history being lost in each successive turnover of personnel in the Trust Territory. Every year brings a group of new recruits into the educational system. This particular handbook contains valuable information on the past history and specific terminology required of one who will teach in this area. Special emphasis was given to the educational system in the Marshall Islands.

The purpose of this study was (1) to aid in developing oral language patterns essential for better understandings of some common concepts in English; (2) to provide seven field trips from rural to urban communities for stimulating first-hand experiences; (3) to couple these trips with an extensive use of related audio-visual materials for immediate reinforcement learning; (4) to originate oral dialogue in English for classroom practices before and after each excursion; and (5) to test the significance of the gains made in use of English.
