Using A Mobile Device To Deliver Visual Schedules To Young Children With Autism, Leslie Nelson
Using A Mobile Device To Deliver Visual Schedules To Young Children With Autism, Leslie Nelson
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) frequently display an inability to self-regulate (use materials appropriately and refrain from self-stimulatory behavior) and self-monitor (complete each step in a task before continuing to the next step) their behavior and therefore experience a great deal of failure within their respective school and home environments and frequently end up receiving instruction in restrictive, self-contained classrooms. Visual schedules have been used to help students with ASD self-regulate their behaviors in academic and community settings (NPDC, 2010; NSR, 2009). The purpose of this study was to determine whether high-tech visual schedules increase the self-regulation and …
Secondary Education Teacher Preparation Programs Should Differentiate Curriculum And Instruction For Traditional And Nontraditional Preservice Teachers, Cynthia Jane Schairer-Kessler
Secondary Education Teacher Preparation Programs Should Differentiate Curriculum And Instruction For Traditional And Nontraditional Preservice Teachers, Cynthia Jane Schairer-Kessler
Theses and Dissertations
Much demand remains for teacher education programs to produce highly qualified teachers. Current trends show that almost half of today's preservice teachers are considered nontraditional in terms of age and life experience. The purpose of this study was to determine whether secondary education teacher preparation programs should differentiate curriculum and instruction for traditional and nontraditional preservice teachers. Research questions incorporated four variables of professional demeanor, teaching and learning, interpersonal skills, and time management. Data was collected through a presurvey at the beginning of the student teaching semester and a postsurvey at the end of the semester, as well as an …

Dr. Connie's 6 Keys To Becoming A Successful Learner, Connie I. Reimers-Hild
Connie I Reimers-Hild, PhD, CPC
I have learned a great deal about students by teaching and advising learners at the University of Nebraska. The fact that I was working on my Ph.D. on a part-time basis while being employed full-time broadened my knowledge about how to be a successful learner. My professional and personal experiences in the world of higher education have enabled me develop some powerful insights on what it takes to be a successful learner. I would like to share my insights with as many people as possible, so here are Dr. Connie’s 6 Keys to Becoming a Successful Learner:

Creating Time For Research At Marshall University, Deanna Mader, Chong W. Kim
Deanna R. D. Mader
Creating time for research is important, yet difficult. Creating large blocks of dedicated research time is nearly impossible. It is critical, therefore, that the institution encourages all levels to work in a coordinated effort to assist faculty in accessing those precious minutes and smaller blocks of time. At the departmental level the Management and Marketing Division conducts a Research and Teaching (R&T) Forum six to eight times per academic year. The forum allows the division’s 28 faculty members to brainstorm, find areas of similar interests, combine research efforts, and present a “test run” before submission to a journal or conference. …

Learning Strategies Of First-Year Business Students, Bettina Greimel-Fuhrmann
Learning Strategies Of First-Year Business Students, Bettina Greimel-Fuhrmann
International Journal for Business Education
The empirical study presented in this paper identifies potential strengths and weaknesses of first‐year students´ learning strategies at the beginning of their studies. It concentrates on the students´ self‐assessment of their self‐motivation, time management, and concentration, coping with stress and fear of failure, elaboration of information, ability to focus on important information, cooperative learning, self‐control of learning progress, and dealing with exams. The results reveal that during their school days, numerous students have not (or just very rarely) applied learning strategies that may be considered indispensable for successfully studying at a university, like taking notes in class or summarizing the …
Study Habits Of College Students And Their Perceptions Of The Impact Of Brain-Based Attention Strategies On Their Independent Study Time, Sheryl L. Evans
Study Habits Of College Students And Their Perceptions Of The Impact Of Brain-Based Attention Strategies On Their Independent Study Time, Sheryl L. Evans
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this research was twofold. The first part explored the study habits of lower-division undergraduate college students during independent study time, with special inquiry into sustained attention and mental effort. A questionnaire and focus groups answered research questions that explored students' general study practices, their study habits, factors influencing study, the length of sustained attention and mental effort, the strategies used to maintain attention, perceptions about productivity, and the metacognitive strategies used (i.e., self-monitoring, self-regulating, planning, and self-evaluating). The study showed that 1) students do not spend enough time studying, 2) the more time students spent on the …

Everyone agrees that time is a valuable resource. Each of us has a limited amount of it to use for work, family and leisure activities. As more demands are placed on us, our decisions on how we use our time become more difficult. Making the most of it becomes a necessity.
This extension circular discusses how to set your objectives and priorities, streamline decision-making processes, recognize scheduling hints and tools and effectively handle interruptions. Juggling the time demands of work and family, while working at a business in the home, requires additional considerations.
A Pilot Study To Improve Academic Learning Time In Physical Education, Robert Walker
A Pilot Study To Improve Academic Learning Time In Physical Education, Robert Walker
Theses : Honours
Academic Learning Time in Physical Education (ALT-PE) is defined as the portion of engaged time when a student is involved in practice appropriate to his or her ability. The amount of time students are appropriately engaged in physical education activities has been found to have a high correlation with student achievement (Godbout, Brunelle & Tousignant, 1983; Graham, Soares & Hanington, 1983; Harrison, 1987; Phillips & Carlisle, 1983; Placek & Randall, 1986; Silverman, 1985). The teacher has control over the amount of time children can practise the criterion skill in a particular lesson. Investigating the way in which the students spend …

Heg77-78 It's About Time, Kathleen Prochaska-Cue
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide looks at a simple time management system.
An unusual resource each of us has is time. It's unusual because you can't save it for tomorrow, you can't borrow today some you had left over yesterday, you can't lend it to someone else, you can't leave it behind, you can't take it with you.
You can do only two things with time; use it now or lose it forever.

Graduate Student Research Papers
The purpose of this study is to show that we are recognizing and learning ways to cope with the problem; namely: how to return the use of time, space, numbers, and content to those who need it--the teachers and their students--in even the larger schools that symbolize so well our concept of education for all youth. We are also learning how to cope with an equally important additional problem; how to treat a pupil as an individual even though he is one in a great mass of students. Solving these two problems constitutes the exciting challenge of our day. During …
