Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui validitas tes cloze (CL) dan tes-C (C) sebagai alat ukur kemampuan membaca teks bahasa Inggris dengan tes Reading Comprehension (RC) dari TOEFL sebagai tolok ukur dan mengetahui validitas penilaian diri (PD) dengan mengacu pada ketiga tes tersebut. Populasi penelitian meliputi mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah Reading I, III, dan V pada semester gasal tahun akademik 2006/2007 di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 121 mahasiswa yang dipilih dengan menggunakan teknik sampel acak gugus. Data kemampuan membaca dikumpulkan dengan tes RC, CL dan C. Data PD …

Meningkatkan Kemampuan Pemecahan Masalah Melalui Pendekatan Pmri Dan Pelatihan Metakognitif, Sri Wulandari Danoebroto
Jurnal Penelitian dan Evaluasi Pendidikan
Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji pengaruh pendekatan Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) dan pelatihan metakognitif terhadap peningkatan kemampuan siswa dan proses memecahkan masalah. Penelitian ekperimen semu ini dengan desain pretes-postes menggunakan kelompok non-ekuivalen, dua kelompok eksperimen dan dua kelompok kontrol. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas IV sekolah dasar di Kabupaten Sleman. Sampel diambil menggunakan teknik sampling tersedia. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes, angket, wawancara, dan observasi dan dianalisis dengan analisis kovarians. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan siswa memecah masalah yang memperoleh pembelajaran matematika dengan pendekatan PMRI dan pelatihan metakognitif lebih unggul dibandingkan dengan pendekatan konvensional, yaitu terdapat perbedaan pengaruh yang signifikan, …

In this paper I have explored the importance of community service experiences and ultimately created a guide for implementing a high quality and meaningful community service program at the high school level. This paper begins with an initial discussion of my personal experiences in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, when I discovered firsthand the importance of personal reflection and sharing. I have defined community as a group of people with common place and common interest. Community service is an action within the community that betters the community in some way. Language Attitudes, Linguistic Knowledge, And The Multicultural Education Of Pre-Service Teachers: A Sociolinguistic Study, Maria Elisa Paredes

Abstract This research created, implemented and evaluated the impact of a language unit designed to increase linguistic knowledge and change attitudes toward linguistic diversity for pre-service teachers taking an education class that focused on child and adolescent development at an urban university in Missouri. Both quantitative and qualitative measures were used to document learning and attitude change toward linguistic variety during 4-8 hours of instruction. The language unit included a pretest/posttest design, an overview of general linguistics, phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, language acquisition and bilingualism; the unit utilized multiple digital tools (DVD & CD) created by the researcher. An illness, like prostate cancer, brings crisis to our experience and confuses the structure of our reality as well as disturbs our meaning which is upheld by interpretive imagery. Hence, recovery involves a learning experience that consists of a reflective, educational, and spiritual process to rebuild and reconstruct meaning through the use and transformation of our images and themes to create meaning. The purpose of the research was to investigate the meaning of the illness experience through the lens of transformational learning theory. School reform not only heavily depends on teachers, but their belief in their own ability to impact student achievement, otherwise known as teacher efficacy. As of the 2009-10 academic year, high school students in Arkansas will be required to pass so called “End of Course” (or “EOC”) examinations in Algebra I, Biology, Geometry, and English. Students who fail to meet the requisite passing standard will be required to retake the class or to pass “an appropriate alternative exit course in order to receive credit for the course on his or her transcript and in order to graduate.” In other words, these four EOC tests will become high school exit exams. Thus, as of 2009-10, Arkansas will join some 23 other states that have high …

The process of creating art is considered to be a therapeutic method for students with emotional behavioral disorders (E/BD) to non-verbally express their thoughts and feelings. It has also been used by therapists and at times collaboratively with special education teachers to assess thoughts, feelings and also state of mind. Research suggests that art assessment offers an uncensored view of a child's thoughts and feelings and is a nonverbal method of assessment for children who are still developing language skills or who are unwilling to verbalize their feelings or emotions (White, Wallace, Huffman, 2004).
