Over the last few years, the state of Oklahoma has been looking at ways to reduce expenses to address concerns about a budget deficit. There have been efforts made to reduce expenses due to the use of energy. It has been said, when the lights are on, work is getting done. Running lights is therefore the cost of doing business. These two different roles require different techniques as to the amount and quality of praise that can be given to writers. At present, the words sustainable and sustainability tend to be associated with environmental issues. Yet, the word sustain comes from the Old French sostenier meaning, “hold up, bear; suffer, endure” and Latin’s sustinere that adds, “hold upright; furnish with means of support; undergo.” Latin’s sustinere can further be broken down into the elements sub and tenere, the root of which, ten, means, “to stretch” (Harper). A student’s attitude towards mathematics affects how they learn and perform in mathematics. What exactly is meant by attitude and how this interacts with mathematics education is a current debate in the mathematics education research community. Regardless, practitioners often acknowledge a consideration of improving students’ attitudes towards mathematics in their course design. This creates an impetus to study attitudes towards mathematics in a way that lends itself to observing changes over a course in mathematics. Aggregated and deidentified pre- and post-self-evaluation survey data from the Maker Literacies pilot program, Fall 2017 through Fall 2018. The public version of the data includes self-evaluation data from 347 students enrolled in 27 unique courses spanning 13 disciplines at five universities. Competencies measured by the self-evaluations include makerspace equipment use, design thinking principles, project and time management, and assembling effective teams. Senior Honors Theses

This Senior Honors Thesis covers effective strategies that educators can use with English Language Learners (ELLs) in the subjects of reading and mathematics. Reading strategies contained within the thesis include comprehension strategies as well as analytic and reflective reading strategies. Mathematics strategies will focus on building a foundation of basic skills at an early age and developing those foundational skills and concepts throughout the grades. These reading and mathematics strategies will be for students at various levels of English proficiency and at various levels of reading/math abilities in grades K-8.
