Graduation took little from last year's squad, which finished a close second in the New England Championships. A solid freshman group and the addition of several transfer students will keep the intrasquad competition keen and should help make the season a good one.

Thirteen returning lettermen will be aided by some talented freshmen, giving good balance and depth to this year's squad. Among the returnees will be seniors Kevin Reader, an outstanding freestyler and competitor, and Roy Warren, New England winner in both the one- and three-meter diving competition.

A strong freshman group supplementing a veteran team makes the prospects look bright for the coming season. Returning will be diver Roy Warren, first in the New England Championships on the one- and three-meter boards. He will be complemented by Rolf Olsen, who gave Roy his only two dual meet defeats last year. Women's intercollegiate swimming is experiencing a tremendous upsurge across the nation. UMO has only seven members returning from last year's squad, which finished fifth in New England. A strong group of freshmen, however, should insure that all individual and school records should fall in '75-76.

The University of Maine at Orono is in its third varsity swimming season. Its swimming complex, completed in September 1971, is an excellent facility for competitive swimming and diving. The pool contains eight lanes and a separate diving area. Our goals at Maine are to build an outstanding competitive program—one which will be representative in New England and along the Eastern Seaboard. The results of the 1973-74 season were very gratifying and showed a big forward step being taken in our young program.
