Computer Anxiety And Computer Self-Efficacy Of Older Adults, Elizabeth Diane Cooper-Gaiter
Computer Anxiety And Computer Self-Efficacy Of Older Adults, Elizabeth Diane Cooper-Gaiter
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Many older adults (aged 55 and older) need training to acquire computer knowledge and skills. Using computers and the Internet could provide access to vital resources for improving older adults' health and maintaining their connections with family and society. This study examined 2 psychological constructs--computer anxiety and computer self-efficacy--that have been shown to impact a person's successful use of computers and related technology. Guided by Bandura's self-efficacy theory, which emphasizes the importance of adult learners being motivated and taking charge of their learning, this study examined the impact of a computer knowledge and skills workshop on older adults' computer anxiety …

Proprioception And Literacy In The Digital Realm, Paul Michael Rappoccio
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Drawing on research in the fields of neuroscience, reading cognition, and the history of writing, the author explores the condition of reading today. Rather than accepting the apocalyptic pronouncements that the Internet is "dumbing down" current readers, the author argues for a more nuanced understanding of the effects of digital media. He argues that the literacies needed for the new digital realm are not new, but are literacies developed over thousands of years. The author argues for the need of more education and instruction in the use of digital media, and that the digital realm requires new proprioceptive (spatial awareness) …

The Effects Of Digital Technology On Basic Writing, Leslie Denise Norris
The Effects Of Digital Technology On Basic Writing, Leslie Denise Norris
English Theses & Dissertations
At this study's research site—a small, Virginia community college—faculty, staff and students use digital technology to share information daily, which could cause a problem for some students: students may need digital literacy instruction before the college requires those courses. Another potential problem is that scholars (Stephens, Houser, and Cowan) indicate that some instructors across the academy treat students negatively if students do not demonstrate digital, rhetorical dexterity when communicating—particular digital skills that some students lack.
For this study, I surveyed basic writing (BW) instructors and students at the research site to learn more about their digital experiences. The surveys yielded …
Generativity: The New Frontier For Information And Communication Technology Literacy, Jorge Pérez, Meg C. Murray
Generativity: The New Frontier For Information And Communication Technology Literacy, Jorge Pérez, Meg C. Murray
Faculty Articles
Information and communication technology literacy is increasingly referred to as the fourth literacy. However, it is neither as well understood nor as readily assessed as reading, writing, and arithmetic. This paper argues that better understanding and more effective measurement of ICT literacy are needed to gauge readiness to both pursue higher education and enter the workforce. The paper builds on existing definitions of ICT literacy by introducing a model that extends the dimensionality of the construct. The model posits that skills and knowledge, along with attitudes toward IT, coalesce in the context of reflective self-awareness and purposeful intent to allow …

Results showed that the trainees, prior to the training, had limited access to computer technology and needed training in incorporating computer technology in the curriculum. After the training, trainees have shown increased levels of comfort with various …
Reaching The Digitally Disadvantaged. Australia's Educational Neglect Of Indigenous Learners In The Information Age., Max Lenoy
Australian Journal of Teacher Education
In a country that boasts one of the highest computer and technological penetration rates in the world, Indigenous Australians still suffer significantly lower levels of access, participation, outcomes and educational success. With the growth of the Information age and the need for technological skills there is a concern that new technology will further increase the ongoing disadvantaged position of Indigenous learners in today’s educational environment. Are Indigenous learners destined to assume the same disadvantaged position in a new information society that they have been forced into in the past? Is information technology a solution to bridge this educational divide? This …
