Guiding Peer Conferences In The Process Of Writing, Cheryl Kremer Jan 1998

Guiding Peer Conferences In The Process Of Writing, Cheryl Kremer

Graduate Research Papers

Children can only become experienced writers by learning to use the writing process through opportunities to write and through modeling of strategies by their teacher. Children will especially benefit from questions and comments that are appropriate to make during a writing conference. This instruction may first take place during all-class conferences and eventually move to conferences between students (Graves, 1983). Conferences may have many purposes, but according to Graves (1994), the most basic purpose for a conference is to give the students time to share where they are in the writing process and to figure out where they are headed.

Parent As Participant Or Outsider : Establishing Positive Relations Between Schools And All Families, Amy Keller Sandvold

Graduate Research Papers

The purpose of this review is to help elementary school educators to gain important information which may help them build positive relations with all parents. This review will not address special education teachers and programs directly, because of the particular case of federally mandated roles for parents working with educators, for which preservice special education teachers receive training. Likewise, national standards for preparation of early childhood educators provide for training in working with families of young children. This review is designed for elementary educators who do not have backgrounds in early childhood nor special education, although information cited might apply …

A Preferred Vision For Administering Elementary Schools : A Reflective Essay, Randall W. Strabala Jan 1998

A Preferred Vision For Administering Elementary Schools : A Reflective Essay, Randall W. Strabala

Graduate Research Papers

Why is it that some people give up the relative security and comfort of working with children in the classroom to join the principalship? Why do these same people choose to leave an area where they are the perceived expert in their field for an area where one's decisions are constantly questioned and criticized by those he or she works for and with? These are difficult questions to answer and in a rational sense, there are not a lot of logical responses for why some individuals decide to devote the effort necessary to understand and achieve the position of the …

Literacy Tutoring: A Qualitative Study On Tutor And Tutee Interactions, Kimberly R. Staebell

Graduate Research Papers

One-to-one literacy tutoring has been promoted as a solution for an increasing number of children who are struggling with reading in the regular classroom. This tutoring refers to an individual tutor working with a single child on literacy activities (Wasik & Slavin, 1993). This type of tutoring is said to be effective (Wasik & Slavin, 1993). One-to-one tutoring, for example, allows for supplemental reading time and the chance for more reading to occur. Morris (1990), notes that "an opportunity to learn to read is of critical importance" (p. 134 ). This opportunity is reflected in an individual tutoring situation which …

Copyright Issues For The Technological Classroom : What Is Permissible Under Current Copyright Law And Guidelines For Educators In The Design And Use Of Multimedia, Disance Learning, And Other Recent Technological Advances?, Anthony Kenneth Clark

Graduate Research Papers

Technologies, such as computers, Internet, electronic mail etc., offer educational institutions limitless opportunities for learning and teaching. While technological advancements encourage academia to boldly go where no one has gone before, there are legitimate copyright and intellectual property concerns that need to be addressed. The current copyright law passed in 1976, although it legally established the Fair Use principle, is inadequate given the age we live in.

To encourage dialogue, this review of the literature will explore the applicability of copyright law to educators in the electronic environment. Current law, established guidelines, and recent court decisions will be discussed in …

Survey Of Student Satisfaction With Financial Aid Services, Elise Wrye Boyett

Legacy ETDs

Financial aid offices exist in virtually every postsecondary institution in the United States. They disburse money to students in a variety of methods, including scholarships and grants with no repayment requirements, and various loans with payback responsibilities varying in terms of time, rate of interest, and who pays. Institutions use financial aid funds for multiple purposes — to attract highly qualified students, to attract students to specific programs, and to assist students who would not otherwise be able to attend. Thus, financial aid and student enrollment are closely related.

Over the last 40 years, the primary purpose of financial aid …

Historical Antecedents Shaping Concept Of Andragogy: A Comparison Of Sources And Roots, John A. Henschke Edd

John A. Henschke

Although there is not one standard definition of the term "andragogy" in any one country or the numerous countries in which it has some recognition, andragogy is becoming a rallying term to identify theory, research and practice in the realm of adult education in some countries around the world, while finding resistance in others. Probing into and understanding some of the historical antecedents -- sources, roots and perceptions (or misperceptions) -- which have shaped and continue to shape varying conceptions of andragogy, may help to clarify and articulate a definition and direction for the further study of andragogy as an …

Dalla Simbologia Giuridica A Una Filosofia Giuridica E Politica Simbolica ? Ovvero Il Diritto E I Sensi, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha Dec 1997

Dalla Simbologia Giuridica A Una Filosofia Giuridica E Politica Simbolica ? Ovvero Il Diritto E I Sensi, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
