Nurses’ knowledge of diabetes and diabetes management and the identification of differences in knowledge gains after completion of a lecture-based or a computer-based diabetes educational intervention in 175 participants from a variety of health care settings, shifts, and specialties in a large acute-care facility in the Southeastern United States was studied. This was a randomized experimental design with a pretest (Time 1), an immediate post test (Time 2), and a 3-week-post test (Time 3) utilizing the conceptual framework of M. S. The purpose of the research is threefold. The first purpose is to determine if multiracial individuals are at a higher risk for alcohol, tobacco, and drug use. The second purpose is to determine the relationship between racial identity and risk behaviors. The third purpose is to determine how the change/no change of racial identity longitudinally contributes to one’s risk to engage in risk behaviors. Objective: Previously we have shown that total free living energy expenditure (TEE) and greater fitness was associated with reduced long term weight gain and improved ability to estimate TEE from physical activity (PA) questionnaires. In the current study, it is hypothesized that women will overestimate questionnaire self reported energy expenditure (QEE). Furthermore, weight reduced women who exercise train will be better able to estimate TEE compared to weight reduced women who do not exercise train. Purpose of this study was to compare age and gender differences in hip extension (HE) and flexion (HF) relative (5, 25, and 50% of maximal voluntary contraction [MVC]) and absolute (25 Nm) torque steadiness measured as standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV) of torque fluctuations, and torque accuracy (TA). MVC and steadiness were assessed for 20 young (24.0 + 2.2 yrs) and 11 older (65.4 + 4.5 yrs) men and women. MVC was lower for HF, but HE had greater torque fluctuations. It addresses gaps in the literature regarding Engaging Instruction and discusses current research. The study’s purpose was to determine the effectiveness of the Mobile Math Initiative (MMI) in three high poverty schools. Changes in achievement of 89 students over 3 years were examined using the Stanford 10 (SAT 10) Procedures and Problem Solving subtests and the Alabama Reading and Mathematics Test (ARMT) Math subtest. The purpose of this study was to explore the professional experience of Nationally Board certified teachers as they planned for and taught students after attaining National Board certification. A qualitative, phenomenological methodology (Bogdan & Biklin, 1998; Meloy, 1994; Moustakas, 1994) was used in this study. For this study 10 early childhood generalist and middle childhood generalist Alabama Nationally Board certified teachers were interviewed. An additional purpose was to determine if the practice of aikido was associated with measurable levels of somatic symptoms, perceived stress, anxiety and spirituality. The purpose of this qualitative study was to document the evolution of critical literacy and transformational writing in an inner-city kindergarten classroom in a mid-sized city located in the southeastern United States. This research involved 19 kindergarten students who were investigated in the naturalistic setting of routine instruction. Social issue texts were read aloud to students. After discussions of the texts, students responded to literature by creating exhibits, establishing a lost and found service for the school, helping peers and family cope with death, and partnering with the community nursing home. The need for data-driven education and proof of accountability has become apparent since the reform movement in American education that began with A Nation at Risk (National Commission on Excellence in Education, 1983). This research study was designed to examine and compare how community engagement knowledge of Program Administrators and Community Health Advisors (CHAs) can be shaped and affected by social capital and community capacity. This was achieved by analyzing the Congregations for Public Health’s Search Your Heart Program. The analysis used a three one-way fixed-effects ANOVA model, one for each of the three research questions. Background: Chlamydia prevalence in reproductive-age females is 3-20%. This study aimed to determine if physicians’: • sexual activity prevalence perceptions • Chlamydia prevalence perceptions • Sexual history-taking were associated with mean office screening rates; and if physicians’ perceptions of: • sexual activity • Chlamydia were associated with sexual history-taking. Methods: A national MCO’s physicians participated and were asked about their perceptions of sexual activity and Chlamydia prevalence and their sexual history-taking.
