- Academic Council has implemented a consent agenda for routine actions.
- In November, a graduate certificate in Sports Nutrition and a minor in Allied Health were approved. The Allied Health minor is a way for students not in admission selective programs to remain eligible for financial aid.
- Academic Council also revised the procedure on undergraduate GPA calculations. The change will allow more students to progress toward graduation. Every grade is counted toward overall GPA, but the new procedure allows programs to identify specific courses for majors and minors to calculate GPA. The exact wording of the procedure change is …

Dr. Brooke Schmeichel
Dr. Brooke Schmeichel, an expert in research of the neurobiology of addiction, joined the Quillen College of Medicine faculty in February 2020 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
She earned a BS (2001), MS (2010) and PhD (2012) in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She began a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. George Koob at The Scripps Research Institute and completed her postdoctoral training at the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Intramural Research Program.

JOHNSON CITY – Over his 81 years of life, Art Rosenbaum has intermingled a palette of interests, passions and endeavors as broad as the spectrum of color and elements in his paintings. “(Rosenbaum’s) investigations have resulted in a tapestry of images woven from the uncommon threads of his life’s pursuits,” says Dennis Harper, curator at Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts at Auburn University.

JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 22, 2020) – Dr. William Stone, a professor at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, is studying a new precision medicine approach to treating bladder cancer.
Stone, who is also director of pediatric research in Quillen’s Department of Pediatrics, received a Research Development Committee grant from ETSU to further his study of an enzyme called an esterase.

ETSU Promise Plus begins in fall 2020 and will be open to first-time, full-time freshmen eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery (HOPE) Scholarship and the maximum Pell Grant. JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 14, 2020) – Fifty years ago, residents of an impoverished county in East Tennessee staged an outdoor drama. They had no experience in any aspect of show business, their county was in a remote mountainous area far from major highways, and many of their fellow citizens objected to the subject of the play. But the show went on anyway.
