Increasingly, marketing and consumer researchers rely on online data collection services. While actively-managed data collection services directly assist with the sampling process, minimally-managed data collection services, such as Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk), leave researchers solely responsible for recruiting, screening, cleaning, and evaluating responses. The research reported here proposes a 2 × 2 framework based on sampling goal and methodology for screening and evaluating the quality of online samples. By sampling goals, screeners can be categorized as selection, which involves matching the sample with the targeted population; or as accuracy, which involves ensuring that participants are appropriately attentive. By methodology, screeners …

Calgreen: California Green Building Standards Code: Blog 3, San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative, Gabriella Medina, Darbi Berry
San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative
CALGreen encourages local governments to go beyond statewide Energy Code regulations to achieve greater building energy efficiency and cost savings, all while providing the necessary resources to do so. The currently enforced version of CALGreen is the 2019 CALGreen code. Mandates and voluntary provisions in the 2022 CALGreen update will go into effect January 1, 2023.¹ If both the 2022 Energy Code and 2022 CALGreen mandatory and voluntary standards were to be adopted statewide, the carbon reductions would be equivalent to removing 8,000 fuel-powered cars off the road for the first year and 24,000 fuel-powered cars by the third year.² …

A Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) is an electronic database that tracks controlled substance prescriptions in a state. PDMPs can provide health authorities timely information about prescribing and patient behaviors that contribute to the epidemic and facilitate an agile and directed response. Electronic Prescribing for Controlled Substances (EPCS) aimed to eliminate paper prescriptions by allowing clinical prescribers to write prescriptions electronically, making them digital and trackable for both the prescriber and the pharmacist and has been an essential part of any health information technology system, as well as a requirement for 'meaningful use' (Blumenthal & Tavenner, 2010). However, one of …

Exploring “Smart And Green” Concepts: A New Synergy For Irish Hospitality, Yi Sheng Tan, Angela Wright
Dept. of Organisation & Professional Development Publications
The spotlight on “smart and green” has never been so bright and, within the hotel sector, emphasis on opportunities such as sustainability and digitisation are quickly shaping the agenda. This paper explores key components of the “smart and green” agenda among Irish hotels in the Republic of Ireland and how these concepts relate to their public customer image. While the multifaceted hybrid model of “smart and green” hotels is rapidly emerging as the new theme in the sustainable tourism industry, previous literature failed to address the issue in relation to a lack of uptake from Irish hoteliers. A post-positivistic paradigm …

Constituency Building: Determining Consumers’ Willingness To Participate In Corporate Political Activities, Clark D. Johnson, Brittney C. Bauer, Brad D. Carlson
School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works
Recently, firms have increasingly approached their own customers for assistance with corporate political activities—a strategy known as constituency building. While constituency building efforts targeting shareholders and employees have been well-studied, relatively little is known about the impact of approaching consumers. Hence, this paper examines why consumers participate in corporate political activities on behalf of a brand, and we present three studies to explore this increasingly popular practice. First, Study 1 utilizes qualitative interviews with actual campaign participants to provide initial insights to develop our theoretical model, which we subsequently test in two experiments. Study 2 finds that brand loyalty is …

Dissertations and Theses Collection (Open Access)
This dissertation aims to investigate the relationship between managerial cultural intelligence, marketing agility and innovation capability of foreign subsidiaries. Based on upper echelons theory (UET), I argue that managerial cultural intelligence facilitates marketing agility. Moreover, marketing agility is positively associated with innovation capability of foreign subsidiaries. Using two-wave survey data of 110 foreign subsidiaries in China, this study verified the theoretical model. It is found that managerial cultural intelligence is positively associated with marketing agility, and marketing agility is positively related to innovation capability of foreign subsidiaries. Organizational learning climate, market competition, market turbulence, and market complexity have positive moderating …
