I Can’T Believe Online. A Study On How Negative Reviews Move Online Shoppers To Offline Channel, Hyo-Jeong Kim, Sang Man Han

Asia Marketing Journal

Despite the benefits of online shopping, we easily observe consumer behaviour when making purchases through offline channels. Why do they choose to go offline by taking the effort to go there? As a factor influencing decision-making, this study assumes that distrust of online shopping increases webrooming intentions that online consumers move to offline channels. Consumers check online reviews as well as seller information to increase their purchasing confidence. There are few studies on the effect of negative online reviews on consumers' purchasing decisions. Contrary to the pessimistic results of previous studies, the results of this study explain the mechanism by …

The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was the conceptual foundation for this study. To achieve the objectives of the study, one thousand five hundred and twelve effective questionnaires were collected and analyzed using Smart PLS 3.3. Challenges Smallholder Farmers Face In Extracting Value From Agricultural Information, Daniel Muhanguzi, John Ngubiri

The African Journal of Information Systems

Agricultural information can enhance smallholder farmers’ knowledge and decision-making ability, where the ubiquity of ICTs has resulted in an exponential increase of ICT based agricultural information services. However, there is still poor utilization of agricultural information. This study examines challenges that impede smallholder farmers from deriving value from agricultural information despite availability of information services. A mixed-method research approach was employed to gather data from 200 farmers using semi-structured interviews, Likert scale surveys and five focus group discussions. The findings indicate that the challenges faced include low education levels, poor quality information, poorly designed information channels, and high cost of …

Savoring And The Experiential Advantage: Savoring Beliefs Determine Consumer Happiness From Experiential Versus Material Purchases, Charlene Chu May 2022

Savoring And The Experiential Advantage: Savoring Beliefs Determine Consumer Happiness From Experiential Versus Material Purchases, Charlene Chu

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Consumer research finds that people derive greater enduring happiness from discretionary spending on experiential purchases (events that they personally encounter or live through) than material purchases (tangible objects that can be obtained and kept in their possession). While research in this area has contributed to our understanding of this “experiential advantage” by examining the underlying psychology of this phenomenon, individual differences in the experiential advantage have received less attention. The present investigation examines whether individual differences in savoring capacity affect the subjective well-being that consumers derive from experiential vs. material purchases. This research finds that the self-rated ability to savor …

Black Homelessness In Los Angeles, Dezmin Hemmans, Rosemary Kim May 2022

Black Homelessness In Los Angeles, Dezmin Hemmans, Rosemary Kim

Honors Thesis

Throughout American history, Black people have experienced disproportionate amounts of racism, inequity, and lack of resources. This systemic lack of resources and disparities contribute to an overall lack of individual economic development. These factors were further emphasized following the COVID 19 pandemic, which, increased the separations between others. At the start of the Reconstruction Era, the recently freed enslaved faced homelessness as they left plantations penniless with nowhere to go. They were met with both de facto and de jure segregation codified through restrictive covenants, deed clauses that restricted the sale of property to Black people (Cite). Today, Black people …

Compliance Based Penetration Testing As A Service, Srinivasulu R. Vuggumudi, Kaushik Ragothaman, Yong Wang

Research & Publications

The current penetration testing method practiced in the information systems domain is insufficient to protect information systems. Penetration testing is part of the final acceptance criteria before the system is released into a production environment. Once the system is in production, the environment and configuration are bound to change for various reasons, especially in cloud environments. This change can create vulnerabilities, and hackers take advantage of them. In cloud service models like PaaS, security is a shared responsibility of tenant and provider, and it is challenging to perform penetration testing. This paper introduces a new method called Compliance Based Penetration …

Improving The Effectiveness Of Security Controls To Prevent Apt Attacks, Srinivasulu R. Vuggumudi, Yong Wang, Kaushik Ragothaman, Cherie Noteboom, Jun Liu

Research & Publications

An advanced persistent threat (APT) is a prolonged, aimed attack on a specific target. Cyber attackers gain access to a system or network and remain there for an extended period without being detected. The goal of APT attackers is generally stealing data and intellectual property. Despite all the awareness, technological advancements, and massive investment, the fight against APTs is a losing battle. A false sense of security is a belief that the organization is safer than it is. We researched whether organizations have a false sense of security against APT attacks and what contributes to that belief. Our research indicated …

Project execution plays a decisive role in project success, but past research did not focus on the project manager’s perspective of what needs to be accomplished to achieve success. In this study, the authors used qualitative techniques to look for reoccurring themes related to 44project managers’ responses to interview questions associated with successful project execution and failed project execution. The study found that despite the project management profession growth, professional associations’ efforts, and their professional development endeavors, project management execution seems to be concerned with what has happened versus what is happening in a project. Last year, the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute released a landmark databook on race, ethnicity, and sex. World Class Supply Chain 2022: Creating A Sustainable Future, Michael Haughton

Business Faculty Publications

The Sixth Annual World Class Supply Chain Summit on May 4th, 2022 was a landmark in at least threes ways: First, it marked a return to having the annual summit in-person following the COVID-driven cancellation of the 2020 summit and the virtual delivery format of the 2021 summit. Second, the 2022 summit’s hybrid format (simultaneous in-person delivery in Milton, Ontario and online delivery to delegates who attended virtually) required the summit planning team to creatively deploy teleconferencing tools that characterise the pandemic-era. Third, for the very first time, we scheduled a Student Forum segment in which students presented material from …
