Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Approximately 160,000 assistant project managers in the construction industry willingly left the U.S. labor workforce in 2018. The cost of replacing an employee could amount up to 200% of the departing employee's annual salary for construction companies. Grounded in Herzberg's two-factor theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to investigate effective organizational strategies business leaders used to retain skilled assistant project managers. Six participants were senior project managers from construction companies in Manhattan, New York, with more than 10 years of experience in the commercial construction industry. Data came from semistructured interviews and a review of company …

A Correlational Study Of Manager-Employee Relationship, Employee Rewards, And Employee Engagement, Hilda M. Concepcion
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Organizational leaders are challenged with loss of productivity due to lack of employee engagement, making employee engagement a top priority for organizational executives worldwide. Grounded in Emerson’s social exchange theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between manager-employee relationship and employee rewards and employee engagement. Employees (N = 31) of a U.S. organization completed the Intrinsic Work Rewards Survey, Extrinsic Rewards on Creativity Measure, and the Work and Well-being Survey. The results of the multiple linear regression indicated a statistically significant relationship, F(2, 28) = 32.875, p < .001, R2 = .701. Employee rewards was the only statistically significant predictor of employee engagement (t = 6.074, p < .001). A recommendation is for organizational leaders to establish reward programs that address employee needs for compensation, achievement, and development. This implications for positive social change include the potential for employees to benefit from financial stability and well-being. The organization may achieve higher performance and profitability, enabling the organization to invest in job creation and community economic development.

Two thousand records from 3 archival U.S. public NASDAQ 100 datasets from March 28, 2016, to June 15, 2016 (79 days) of 53 companies with …

Why Is Bribery Pervasive Among Firms In Sub-Saharan African Countries? Multi-Industry Empirical Evidence Of Organizational Isomorphism, Nnaoke Ufere, James Gaskin, Sheri Perelli, Antoinette Somers, Richard Boland Jr.
Faculty Publications
Motivated by the prevalence and persistence of corruption in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) despite high-profile anticorruption efforts, and by calls for more research on unethical organizational behavior by firms in Africa, we investigated the link between bribery in 12 SSA countries and the phenomenon of organizational isomorphism, long used to explain legitimate, but rarely, illegitimate firm practices. Analysis of 5989 SSA firms in three distinct industries known for high levels of bribery reveals direct positive relationships between bribery and its perception as frequently practiced in specific industries (“mimetic isomorphic effect”); institutional constraints on businesses (“coercive isomorphic effect”); and local market rivalry …
Conflict Style Is Not A Label: The Relationship Of Age, Education Level, Work Level, Reason For Assessment, And Time Between Assessments To Conflict Style Change, Michael P. Kelly
Conflict Style Is Not A Label: The Relationship Of Age, Education Level, Work Level, Reason For Assessment, And Time Between Assessments To Conflict Style Change, Michael P. Kelly
Department of Conflict Resolution Studies Theses and Dissertations
Organizations and research that are only measuring conflict style one time, are treating conflict style as a trait or label. However, conflict style can change over time, and with context. Even the circumstances around the conflict itself may impact how individuals handle conflict. This means that individuals may demonstrate different conflict styles in different circumstances. There is little research that explores the implications of individual conflict style change if measured at different times and in different circumstances. Nor is there much research that explores what factors may have an influence on conflict style change. This study explores whether conflict style …

The financial consequences of the government-ordered shutdowns of businesses across America to mitigate the COVID-19 health crisis are enormous. Estimates indicate that small businesses have lost $255 to $431 billion per month and more than 44 million workers have been laid off. When businesses have requested reimbursement of their business interruption losses from their insurers under business interruption policies, their insurers have denied the claims. The insurance industry also has announced that business interruption policies do not cover pandemic losses, so they intend to fight COVID-19 claims “tooth and nail.” More than 450 lawsuits throughout the country already have been …

Their role clearly extends significantly beyond that identified in the Horizon 2020 User Guide which sees the PC as “the main contact point between the consortium and the Commission for a particular grant”. The PC is far more than simply “the proposal initiator in the submission …

This paper evaluates the current state of monetary and non-monetary rewards systems in place in the UK banking sector in an attempt to identify reasons for the preference of monetary rewards over non-monetary rewards. Data was collected from two banks, LLOYDS TSB and Royal Bank of Scotland. The selection of these two banks emanates from their recent bonus crises and the fact that they are both part nationalised, hence the need for a prudent reward system. Questionnaires were used to obtain data and the Evidence Based Reward Management (EBRM) methodology was used to highlight the effectiveness as well as the …
