Research outputs 2014 to 2021

© 2020 by the authors. The business of international trade has never been identified as zero-sum. Yet, dependence on regional agreements to provide alternate means for countries to overlook shortcomings persists. China's recent rise up the trade value-chain has fostered an assumption that the regional agreement provides various advantages to exports from Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries. This paper provides an empirical assessment of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) impact on ASEAN export efficiency into the Chinese market, in pre and post eras. Using a structured gravity approach to estimate potential export pattern at aggregate and …

Resisting Marginalisation And Reconstituting Space Through Lgbtqi+ Events, Oscar Vorobjovas-Pinta, Anne Hardy

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

The field of event studies has attracted a breadth of research on the triple-bottom line of economic efficiency, environmental integrity and social equity. The focus of many studies related to event tourism, however, has fallen upon the economic and environmental dimensions of events with far less attention on “social equity.” The potential of events tourism to facilitate justice and equity for marginalised and minority groups has been especially overlooked. LGBTQI+ communities utilise gay events, such as pride parades, as mediums to communicate their identities and seek support from broader society. This paper examines a unique festival space where LGBTQI+ communities …

Consumer Sentiment And Indonesia’S Stock Returns, Deepa Bannigidadmath

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

© Buletin Ekonomi Moneter dan Perbankan 2020. All Rights Reserved. This paper examines whether consumer sentiment predicts the excess returns of the aggregate market and nine industries from the Indonesia equity market. We discover evidence of predictability for three industries; however, the magnitude of predictability are heterogeneous. Some sectors are predictable during expansions, whereas others are only predictable during recessions. There is no evidence of the reversal of the impact of consumer sentiment on stock returns. We conduct several robustness tests that include (i) estimating a predictive regression model with a feasible quasi-generalized least squares–based estimator and (ii) accounting for …

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

By analysing the long-term effect of the Wenchuan earthquake on inbound tourist arrivals in Sichuan, this study probes the long-term recovery of inbound tourist arrivals in disaster areas. Empirical evidence reveals the existence of a “Blessing in Disguise” effect, as the growth of overall inbound tourist arrivals to Sichuan after the earthquake has significantly increased. Moreover, we show that this “blessing in disguise” effect is a specific phenomenon, contrasting with China's overall inbound tourism during the same period. This study contributes to the overall knowledge of post-disaster tourism recovery. Managerial implications for post-disaster tourism destinations are discussed.
