Children’s Cancer Charity employs development staff members in field offices across the country. These new hires require a specialized training for their role within the organization. The existing new hire training consists of a sales training and a week-long training held quarterly at the Executive Office. The current training lacks a foundational understanding of the various fundraising programs that exist at CCC and the training on the soft skills required to be successful in a development role. This thesis details the creation and testing of an original statistical metric for analyzing individual basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by both their commonly measured statistics and their so-called “intangibles.” By using existing methods as both guides and a caution against potential shortcomings, an inclusive statistic with multiple layers of data can be built to best reflect an individual player’s overall value to his team. In The Shadows Of The Government: Relationship Building During Political Turnovers, Hanming Fang, Zhe Li, Nianhang Xu, Hongjun Yan

We document that following a turnover of the Party Secretary or mayor of a city in China, firms (especially private firms) headquartered in that city significantly increase their “perk spending.” Both the instrumental-variable-based results and heterogeneity analysis are consistent with the interpretation that the perk spending is used to build relations with local governments. Moreover, local political turnover in a city tends to be followed by changes of Chairmen or CEOs of state-owned firms that are controlled by the local government. However, the Chairmen or CEOs who have connections with local government officials are less likely to be replaced.

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) rose by 0.51% during October of 2018. The increase in the LEI-N, which is designed to predict economic activity six months into the future, suggests moderate economic growth in Nebraska through the first quarter of 2019. Initial claims for unemployment insurance fell in Nebraska during October, while building permits for single-family homes and business expectations improved. In particular, respondents to the October Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase both sales and employment at their businesses over the next six months.

JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 20, 2018) — A local legacy, the Clinchfield Railroad and its founder, George L. Carter, will be honored during Heritage Day on Saturday, Nov. 24, at East Tennessee State University’s Carter Railroad Museum.

The museum’s namesake was instrumental to the growth of the region and the university. Carter was most responsible for establishing the original Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio Railway, now part of CSX. A well-known developer and land owner, Carter bequeathed his 120-acre farm and $100,000 toward the establishment of the East Tennessee State Normal School, which later became ETSU.

Since she was a child, Stauffer gravitated toward literature and fine arts. During her childhood, she was a prolific reader and enjoyed writing. She also took many kinds of art classes at the Kalamazoo Art Institute. A class she took there during high school, however, marked the beginning of her exposure to photography.

JOHNSON CITY (Nov. 20, 2018) – Second-year pharmacy students interested in becoming independent community pharmacists will develop important leadership and business skills through a new mentorship launched by the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University.

Seven students joined the first mentorship group and have been assigned to independent pharmacy owner mentors, who, beyond the development of crucial networking opportunities, will work one-on-one to help students prepare for their careers.
