Many countries have enacted competition laws to curb abuses and specifically prevent unfair competition. Unlike the Unites States, enforcement of competition law in Europe has historically been the domain of the government, generally under the of the European Commissioners for Competition, and does not rely on private actions of entrepreneurs and new business developers. Economics, accounting, finance, and forensic faculty provide assistance, guidance, and analysis. Laboratories participating in Project FORESIGHT have developed standardized definitions for metrics to evaluate work processes, linking financial information to work tasks, and functions. Laboratory managers can then assess resource allocations, efficiencies, and value of services—the mission of Project FORESIGHT is to measure, preserve what works, and change what does not.

This 13,000 word report was published by SAFE (a leading NZ animal advocacy organisation). It documents the welfare problems experienced by around 15,000 New Zealand sows annually, who are confined within metal cages barely larger than their own bodies, in a practice claimed to decrease piglet mortality. It was delivered to NZ’s Primary Production Select Committee along with SAFE’s own submission in June 2018. The Committee was reviewing a 112,844 signature petition to Parliament (the largest in 5 years), which requested a ban on sow farrowing crates.

This paper explores the question: “How does a client's information technology (IT) capability influence audit pricing?” Company data for the years 2004 through 2012 are employed. Firms appearing on the InformationWeek 500 (IW500) annual list of U.S. organizations with superior IT functions serve as a proxy for companies with superior IT capability. Our findings suggest that companies with superior IT capabilities incur higher levels of audit fees. In addition, as client size increases, the audit fees of firms with advanced IT capabilities increase at a greater rate than firms without such capabilities. Access to pharmaceutical services in rural areas has been affected by a national shortage of pharmacists. Telepharmacy, a subspecialty of telemedicine, has involved the utilization of telecommunications to deliver pharmaceutical services to consumers located at a distance. The number of telepharmacy programs in the United States and worldwide has been progressively increasing. The common law tort of intentional infliction of emotional distress (IIED) is a frequently occurring lawsuit. It seems that in almost every wrongful discharge suit by a terminated employee at-will, or lawsuit to redress bullying-like conduct at work, or lawsuit pursuant to civil rights act for discrimination or harassment there appears a count for the IIED tort. As such, there are many, many IIED cases; however, this article demonstrates that there are only a handful of cases that are successful due to the various elements to the tort as well as the high evidentiary hurdles to sustain those elements. Signal Incongruence And Its Consequences: A Study Of Media Disapproval And Ceo Overcompensation, Jp Vergne, Georg Wernicke, Steffen Brenner

We draw on the signaling and infomediary literatures to examine how media evaluations of CEO overcompensation (a negative cue associated with selfishness and greed) are affected by the presence of corporate philanthropy (a positive cue associated with altruism and generosity). In line with our theory on signal incongruence, we find that firms engaged in philanthropy receive more media disapproval when they overcompensate their CEO, but they are also more likely to decrease CEO overcompensation as a response. Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning Faculty Publications and Presentations

Despite the explosion of interest in informal learning in the workplace, few attempts have been made to synthesize the current literature. This article provides an integrative and analytical review of prior empirical studies, particularly focusing on what factors have been identified as antecedents of informal learning in organizations and how informal learning has been conceptualized and measured. It then suggests future avenues for theory building, research, and practice. The authors propose a conceptual framework for understanding informal learning activities using three dimensions: learning competence, intentionality, and developmental relatedness. Implications for human resource development research and practice are also discussed.

The Dynamics Of Trade Margins: Evidence From The European Integration, Sang-Wook (Stanley) Cho, Julián P. Díaz

We analyze the exports trade margins dynamics for ten transition countries, both at the industry and product level, during the period of accession to the EU. We find that trade along both margins was driven by only about 1% of almost 5000 (HS 6-digit) products. Moreover, the largest intensive and extensive margin gains were mostly concentrated around the same subset of sectors. Last, we find a positive correlation between productivity growth and the extensive margin across the transition economies.

To achieve this, the study employs bound test of ARDL to determine the existence of cointegration between trade diversification and key macroeconomic variables. We further estimate the short-run and long-run effects of Intensive and Extensive trade diversification on Economic growth and exchange rate movements. This study examined the causal relationship between inflation and economic growth as well as estimating threshold and forecasting of inflation in Nigeria for the period of 1961 – 2016. The study employed Granger causality test, Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL), Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and a multivariate time series Vector Autoregressive (VAR) models. This paper re-examines broad money (M2) demand and its stability in Nigeria using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing procedure. First, the results indicate that a stable long-run relationship exists between M2 and its determinants including GDP, stock prices, foreign interest rates and real exchange rate. Furthermore, stock prices showed a significant and positive effect on the long-run broad money demand, which in some ways reflect increased ‘financialization’3 and integration of the Nigerian economy into the global economic system. This paper modelled the volatility persistence and asymmetry of naira-dollar exchange rate in interbank and Bureau de Change (BDC) using monthly data between January 2004 and November 2017. The study employed Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity [GARCH (1,1)], Threshold GARCH [TGARCH (1,1)] and Exponential GARCH [EGARCH (1,1)]. The results of Bai-Perron (2003) structural break identified two significant breaks in each market. Two studies were conducted to examine the relationship between self-leadership and action-state orientations. Study 1 applied confirmatory factor analyses to data from a U.S. sample to examine the discriminant validity between the two constructs. Results indicate that self-leadership and action-state orientation are indeed two separate constructs. Study 2 advanced and tested hypotheses examining the roles of horizontal and vertical individualism in moderating the relationship between self-leadership and action-state orientation. Analyses of data from 154 Brazilian subjects provide support for the hypothesized relationship between self-leadership and action-state orientation.
