CONCEPT STATEMENT

Due to the alarming prevalence of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and concussions among athletes, we aim to cease this stifling trend by developing an innovative helmet that protects the skull more thoroughly than previous models at an affordable cost. In addition to product development, we aim to update helmet standards, promote CTE prevention measures, and increase funding for research and treatment.

CONCEPT STATEMENT

Due to significantly low voter participation in Kentucky elections (as low as 11% turnout in specific counties’ primary elections) the need to increase voter turnout in specific Kentucky counties and across the state has become paramount. Research and our team’s own understanding has led us to conclude that passing a bill that adds a voter education course to Kentucky high school graduation curriculum will better Kentucky democracy by increasing voter turnout.

Artificial Intelligence is becoming increasingly applicable in many ways in our society, and some companies in Japan are attempting to enter the eldercare business using this technology. Several companies have developed robots to be used in nursing homes, such as Robear and Paro, but no company has yet to produce a cohesive system combining all aspects of the care needed. Polar Dynamics is endeavoring to change this by bringing a developed, all-encompassing system to the United States.

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) 1 fell by 0.40% during June of 2018. The decline in the LEI-N, which is designed to predict economic activity six months into the future, suggests that the pace of Nebraska economic growth will slow significantly during the 4th quarter of 2018. The indicator fell due to another sharp increase in the value of the U.S. dollar. A rising dollar puts additional pressure on Nebraska businesses which export. A decline in manufacturing hours and an increase in initial claims for unemployment insurance also contributed to the drop in the LEI-N. Business expectations were …

Hybrid entrepreneurial is phenomenal but remains under-studied in the management literature. This paper investigated the joint influence of hybrid entrepreneurs’ trait regulatory focus and wage work to entrepreneurial work enrichment (WE enrichment) on their entrepreneurial engagement and the subsequent proficient, adaptive, and proactive performance in entrepreneurial work. I first interviewed 16 hybrid entrepreneurs to obtain the understanding of their reasons for being in hybrid entrepreneurship, their regulatory focus tendencies, and the resources they transfer from wage work to entrepreneurial work. To validate the measurement scales of promotion and prevention focus, I conducted a pilot study among 66 hybrid entrepreneurs. Then, …

JOHNSON CITY (July 23, 2018) – Two East Tennessee State University doctoral students have received prestigious fellowship awards for their research efforts within the ETSU Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy.

Hannah Oakes, of Bristol, earned a Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Award from the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE). The highly competitive fellowship award includes $10,000 per year to be used toward research and educational costs. 

As part of the application process, Oakes submitted research proposals that were reviewed by a panel and selected based on novelty, relevance and feasibility of the proposed research.

This thesis involves the San Blas neighborhood in the Historic Center of Cusco, Peru. It aims to better understand local effects of the changes that San Blas has undergone since the 1990s and to explore possibilities related to improving the qualities of life of long-term residents (vecinos) who have lived in San Blas for at least two generations. There is extensive debate on whether political risk is an important factor that influences financial markets and investment decision, especially in developing economies. The main aim of this thesis is to analyze the effect of political risk on stock market returns while controlling for financial risk, economic risk, interest rates and foreign exchange rates. The main methodology involves estimating the model using a regime switching model to account for changes in volatility. The sample period starts from January 2007 to August 2017.
