Research Summary: Forming informal ties with political agents is viewed as a viable strategy for multinational enterprises seeking to enter emerging countries. Less is known about the conditions under which political connection is most helpful for firms dealing with cross-border institutional distance. We discuss the distinctive mechanisms through which emerging multinationals may benefit from both home and host political connections. Based on the strategy tripod perspective, we postulate that the importance of different types of connections depends on the overall configurations of a firm's resources and industry characteristics, and these may change with institutional distance. In comparison to heterosexual counterparts, sexual minority student-athletes are two times more likely to experience harassment, more negative climates, report feeling deliberately ignored or excluded from team actives and are subjected to orientation-based derogatory marks via electronic means (Rankin & Merson, 2012). This particular population is 2-3 times more likely to experience anxiety and depression, nearly 14% will attempt suicide or acts of self-harm, and are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol (Cunningham, 2015). In this paper, the researcher explored the significant effect of multiple demographics, age, gender, marital status, and culture, on a customer’s perception of hotel room prices. The customer’s perception of hotel room rates was assessed by three variations, perceived value, perceived fairness, and willingness to pay. Descriptive statistics, MANOVA, and ANOVA were applied in this study. The results demonstrated that age, gender, and marital status had a significant impact on a customer’s perceived value; age, gender, and culture significantly influenced a customer’s perception of fairness; yet, none of these demographics had a significant impact on a customer’s willingness to pay. …

The purpose of this study was to determine if a new salary structure initiative for university staff employees would reduce variance in pay. The initiative was purposed to identify and describe the appropriate components of a pay plan that could be established by an HR unit in higher education. The treatment was tested with a quasi-experimental design using a before/after approach with classified personnel at a Midwestern university. The treatment was the implementation of the new pay plan. Government mandates are often used to promote equality in the workplace, often imposing additional costs upon employers. Economic theory suggest that these additional costs will be shifted onto the employees through a reduction in wages. However, when wage shifting is not an option due to anti-discrimination laws, how will employers respond to the additional costs imposed? Gruber (1994) found that wage shifting occurs when the groups benefiting from a government mandate are easily identifiable to the employer, despite the existence of anti-discrimination laws.

Commitment has often been used to examine why individuals unjustifiably persist in relationships that are lacking in or devoid of satisfaction. However, the practicality of using commitment to examine these situations has been questioned because of its substantial association with satisfaction. Across three studies, we created a measure of nonvoluntary dependence and investigated the validity and reliability of the Nonvoluntary Dependence Scale from an investment model perspective. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses revealed evidence of a single factor and reliability analyses revealed good internal reliability for the measure. Purpose

Organizations increasingly operate under volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) conditions. Traditional command-and-control leadership can be ineffective in such chaotic environments. The purpose of this paper is to outline an alternative model to help leaders and organizations navigate effectively through VUCA environments. By developing three fundamental capacities (absorptive, adaptive and generative), leaders can cultivate organizations capable of continuous synchronization with their fitness landscapes. Central tenets of the framework include diversity, slack, learning, humility, reflection in action and abductive logic.

Stressful work environments cause loss productivity and profitability to companies and a diminished well-being and ill health to employees. Why, then, do some employees remain working in difficult environments despite the dangers to health? This phenomenological study researches reasons employees continued to work for longer than five years in difficult environments. Discussed are impacts of difficult environments on employees and the negative health repercussions experienced. We discuss the link between financial development and economic growth through Total Factor Productivity (TFP) canal in African economies. First, we use a composite index to hierarchize financial development in 40 African countries. Then, we study this relationship by using the methodology of panel data based on the Breusch-Pagan LM Test and Hausman Test, to determine the nature of the specific effect, in a panel of 22 economies. Recent research reported that perception of future time is non-linearly scaled. That is, as objective time gets longer, subjective perception of the objective time does not grow proportionally. The non-linear time perception implies that the same future time feels shorter when it starts in the future than when it starts immediately. The authors call this as a future contraction effect. This study examines the effects of dependence and conflict on organizational performances in partnership, qualitatively (trust) and quantitatively (sales) under four control variables (period of business, number of goods, competition density, and number of employees). Also, this study presents termination cost and alternative attractiveness as the antecedents of dependence, goal incongruity and unfairness as the antecedents of conflict. As the results of analysis with survey data from 360 distributors in manufacturer-distributor partnership, 7 hypotheses are supported and 2 hypotheses are rejected. However, no research, to date, has investigated whether incidental envy influences interpersonal behavior toward others who are unrelated to the emergence of the emotion. That is, the literature is silent on how those who experience incidental envy engage in interpersonal contact and how this may affect consumers. The aim of this study is to investigate the existence of long-memory process in the Indonesia stock market. This study provides two major contributions and one anomaly. First, this is the first study on long-memory conducted on the Indonesia Stock Exchange at individual stocks. Second, this study uses the method of Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA), supplemented by empirical confidence interval introduced by Weron (2002) and Kristoufek (2010). This paper is aimed to validate the four-factor asset pricing model as an improvement towards the standard Fama-French three-factor model. Using U.S. monthly stock returns data from period January 1963 to December 2010, we construct 25 portfolios and the four-factor model includes the market factor (beta), the size factor (SMB), the book-to-market factor (HML), and the ‘momentum' factor (MOM). Similar time series method as in Fama and French (1993) are employed to elaborate the three-factor model and the four-factor model regression.
