Winning And Other Determinants Of Revenue In North America's Major Professional Sports Leagues, John Charles Bradbury

Faculty Articles

This study investigates recent determinants of revenue in North America’s four major professional sports leagues. Estimates reveal that revenue is positively associated with winning in baseball (MLB), basketball (NBA), and hockey (NHL), but not in football (NFL). The returns to winning are not diminishing as commonly assumed, which casts doubt on the uncertainty of outcome hypothesis, and differences across leagues are consistent with revenue sharing arrangements. Estimates also indicate a strong negative relationship between stadium age and revenue, which is consistent with observed rapid replacement of sports stadiums. The results have several important implications for economic models of sports leagues.

A Measurement System For Science And Engineering Research Center Performance Evaluation, Elizabeth Carole Gibson

This research provides performance metrics for cooperative research centers that enhance translational research formed by the partnership of government, industry and academia. Centers are part of complex ecosystems that vary greatly in the type of science conducted, organizational structures and expected outcomes. The ability to realize their objectives depends on transparent measurement systems to assist in decision making in research translation.

A generalizable, hierarchical decision model that uses both quantitative and qualitative metrics is developed based upon program goals. Mission-oriented metrics are used to compare the effectiveness of the cooperative research centers through case studies.

Hélène Darroze was recently named as Veuve Cliquot's World's Best Female Chef for 2015. She comes from four generations of chefs and despite a brief attempt to work outside the kitchen she is now a global culinary star. From her Michelin-starred restaurant in London she told Daniel Jeffreys how she manages two world-class kitchens, a family of two young girls and still finds time to mentor young culinary professionals.

Globalization is most frequently associated with technology or banking, but it has been an equally influential force in the culinary industry. Although some chefs resist cross-cultural integration, Mariana Sebess, Academic Director of the Prestigious Mausi Sebess Culinary Arts Institute, believes that chefs should embrace the concept of world food and draw upon regional cuisines in the dishes they make.

Hong Kong derives its name from a Cantonese expression 香港, which means "fragrant harbour". Scholars attribute the name to incense factories that stored merchandise in Aberdeen warehouses in the 19th century, but these days it's the scent of cooking that fills the air with sweet aromas as a wave of new restaurants open their doors. As Daniel Jeffreys reports, the city's vibrant culinary scene has made its appetite for skilled labour almost insatiable.

Conclusion

Most rural Nebraskans own their home. And, when asked about housing programs or priorities they would support in their community, most rural Nebraskans support programs that help seniors age in their homes, programs that would help upgrade the condition of existing homes and providing affordable rental housing. They are less likely to support organizing volunteer efforts to maintain existing housing stock, but still one-half support this option as well.

Support for one of the programs differs by community size. Persons living in or near larger communities are more likely than persons living in or near smaller communities to support …

The gap between business and consumer confidence closed in Nebraska during October. The Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska (CCI-N) rose to 94.0 during October, from a value of 87.9 in September. A reading of 94.0 is still below the neutral value of 100. The outlook of Nebraska businesses was also closer to neutral than in the previous months. Businesses were only slightly optimistic in October, with respondents to the Survey of Nebraska Business neutral on sales and only slightly optimistic regarding employment. Previous literature has examined customer demandingness as it relates to salesperson performance. Salespeople are subjected to not only customer demands but company demands as well. These demand shifts leave the salesperson feeling as though they have to be in two places at one time. The internal conflict creates stress and impacts salesperson performance. Developing an understanding of how these acute demand changes influence salesperson performance expands the scope of current literature as well as offering managerial insights into how to minimize demand imbalance.
