A Six-Stage Framework For Evolutionary Is Research Using Path Models: Conceptual Development And A Social Networking Illustration, Ned Kock, Murad Moqbel
A Six-Stage Framework For Evolutionary Is Research Using Path Models: Conceptual Development And A Social Networking Illustration, Ned Kock, Murad Moqbel
Information Systems Faculty Publications
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to fill a gap in evolutionary theorizing in the field of information systems. Evolutionary theorizing has recently been added as a useful tool to the research repertoire of information systems investigators. However, the literature on evolutionary theorizing and related empirical research lacks a clear framework that explicitly shows how information systems researchers can go, step-by-step, from a generic model of the evolution of traits in our ancestral past to a more specific model depicting the effects of technology facilitation of those traits among modern humans. The purpose of this study is to fill …

Nonlinear Time Series And Neural-Network Models Of Exchange Rates Between The Us Dollar And Major Currencies, David E. Allen, Michael Mcaleer, Shelton Peiris, Abhay Kumar Singh
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
This paper features an analysis of major currency exchange rate movements in relation to the US dollar, as constituted in US dollar terms. Euro, British pound, Chinese yuan, and Japanese yen are modelled using a variety of non-linear models, including smooth transition regression models, logistic smooth transition regressions models, threshold autoregressive models, nonlinear autoregressive models, and additive nonlinear autoregressive models, plus Neural Network models. The models are evaluated on the basis of error metrics for twenty day out-of-sample forecasts using the mean average percentage errors (MAPE). The results suggest that there is no dominating class of time series models, and …
Conflict Of Interest In 401(K) Funds, Steven D. Dolvin
Conflict Of Interest In 401(K) Funds, Steven D. Dolvin
All Chapters
Companies often hire third party administrators (TPAs) to manage their respective 401(k) plans. Some companies simply provide documentation and advice; however, other TPAs actually offer their own proprietary (in-house) funds as investment alternatives. New research () shows that these funds often carry higher fees and have lower returns, illustrating the impact of a conflict of interest. This is particularly pronounced for banks and insurance companies acting as TPAs.
The Rise Of The Robo-Advisor, Steven D. Dolvin
The Rise Of The Robo-Advisor, Steven D. Dolvin
All Chapters
In response to high fees and varying levels of quality/service across traditional human advisors, new firms are transitioning to a fully automated framework. These so-called "Robo-Advisors" provide fully automated allocation and management strategies. This approach significantly reduces costs and standardizes risk-return matching strategies. See article here, CFA Institute.
2016 Private Capital Markets Report, Craig R. Everett
2016 Private Capital Markets Report, Craig R. Everett
Pepperdine Private Capital Markets Report
The Pepperdine private cost of capital survey was originally launched in 2007 and is the first comprehensive and simultaneous investigation of the major private capital market segments. This year’s survey specifically examined the behavior of senior lenders, asset‐based lenders, mezzanine funds, private equity groups, venture capital firms, angel investors, privately‐held businesses, investment bankers, business brokers, limited partners, and business appraisers. The Pepperdine survey investigated, for each private capital market segment, the important benchmarks that must be met in order to qualify for capital, how much capital is typically accessible, what the required returns are for extending capital in today’s economic …

Why Now Is The Time To Statutorily Ban Insider Trading Under The Equality Of Access Theory, Bruce W. Klaw
Why Now Is The Time To Statutorily Ban Insider Trading Under The Equality Of Access Theory, Bruce W. Klaw
William & Mary Business Law Review
This Article makes the case for a new U.S. statutory provision that defines and prohibits insider trading under an equality of access theory. It supports this claim, and contributes to the important public dialogue concerning this prevalent practice, by highlighting the moral and legal gaps in existing U.S. law that result from understanding the harms of trading on the basis of material nonpublic information solely with reference to fiduciary breach or misappropriation, as evidenced by the recent cases of United States v. Newman and United States v. Salman. It weaves legal analysis together with current literature in business ethics, moral …
Do Teacher Pay For Performance Schemes Advance American Education? What Education And Business Can Learn From Each Other In The Education Reform Movement, Devin R. Bates
William & Mary Business Law Review
States are quickly moving away from the uniform salary schedule used to compensate teachers and are instead implementing various forms of Pay for Performance. While Pay for Performance compensation schemes have proved effective in some areas of business, they are not uniformly applicable and are ill-suited to education reform. By outlining recent developments in this area of the law and by reviewing the justifications for Pay for Performance schemes, this Note shows what education can learn from business and what business can learn from education. Ultimately, it is in the self-interest of businesses to oppose the implementation of Pay for …
Burgers, Doughnuts, And Expatriations: An Analysis Of The Tax Inversion Epidemic And A Solution Presented Through The Lens Of The Burger King-Tim Hortons Merger, Chris Capurso
William & Mary Business Law Review
Currently, the concept of tax inversion is a major corporate phenomenon. In the United States, companies pay taxes on all earnings, whether or not they were accumulated here. With one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, this is a major expense for U.S. corporations competing in the world market. While most companies simply deal with the tax burden, some U.S. corporations buy foreign companies and relocate the company headquarters to the acquisitions home country. This corporate expatriation allows companies to avoid U.S. taxes on earnings in a number of ways. This Note will examine tax inversion through …
