Corporate Inversions: The Migration Of Corporate Tax Revenue, Joel Barker

Estimates of over 20 billion of tax revenue are lost to our economy because of corporate inversions. Therefore, lawmakers are actively exploring ways to stop the hemorrhaging of corporate tax-revenues, tighten restrictions on corporate inversions, and to find ways to collect on defer tax revenues. From a business prospective, corporate inversions are nothing less than prudent, innovative, business strategies to enhance corporate profits. However, it’s undoubtedly having a significant impact on U.S. tax revenues and ultimately reducing domestic investments. It is the mission of the Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Program at Old Dominion University (ODU) to introduce graduate students and post-doctoral fellows to the diverse roles, the responsibilities, and the rewards of an academic career. In doing so, it focuses particularly on the teaching and service roles sometimes not included in doctoral training. Fundamental research skills, such as grant writing, publishing, and academic job searching, are also addressed.

Consumer confidence improved and business expectations remained positive during the month of June. The Consumer Confidence Index – Nebraska (CCI-N), while below the value of 100 which signifies neutral confidence, rose to 92.4 during June, from a value of 89.3 in May. Further, businesses held a positive outlook in June. Respondents to the June 2016 Survey of Nebraska Business have a positive outlook for both sales and job growth at their businesses over the next six months. Twenty-two percent of businesses expect sales to rise, while just 18 percent expect sales to decline. Eighteen percent of businesses expect to increase …

Performance feedback is an integral aspect of facilitating employee learning. Despite its importance, research suggests that when that feedback conveys a performance discrepancy, subsequent performance does not improve. Researchers have advanced reflection as a strategy for increasing feedback effectiveness and have established its value for learning and performance improvement. However, these studies have not accounted for the effects of specific types of reflection on performance. To this point, the current research examines the role of one form of reflection, counterfactual thinking, for learning after performance discrepancies. Purpose – This research analyzes to what extent committing resources to the internationalization of family business groups is related to the institutional distance of the host country. Design/methodology/approach – We used OLS panel data with fixed effects. Findings – We identified that family business groups decide to internationalize themselves committing fewer resources to countries that present a positive institutional distance, and that are more institutionally developed than the country of origin. This study identifies the predictors of positive earnings surprises at varying levels of earnings surprises under strong and weak business conditions (2014 and 2010, respectively). It measures the impact on surprises of a unique and diverse set of predictors such as analyst coverage and industry type which are security characteristics and sales and cash flow that emanate from financial statements. The study employs technology stocks that were found on the NASDAQ as such stocks have reported high positive earnings surprises from 2013-2015 [1]. The entire population of positive earnings surprises for 8316 NASDAQ stocks in 2010 and 2014 was used. …

The following report is our development proposal for the 14-acre site currently owned by the US Postal Service, as well as several surrounding properties owned by PDC including Union Station. Our plan builds off of the 2015 Broadway Corridor Framework Plan, produced by the Portland Development Commission (PDC). The report is intended to provide the PDC with inspiration and lay the groundwork for a future public master plan.

Private Equity Firm Heterogeneity And Cross-Border Acquisitions, Isaac Holloway, Hoan Soo Lee, Tao Shen

We study the global competition among private equity(PE)buy out firms. Using a detailed database of PE firm characteristics,we investigate how PE firm heterogeneity across strategy and performance affects the volume of global acquisitions. A one-standard-deviation increase in a firm’s average internal rate of return is associated with an approximate doubling of the number of deals in any given country. We also find that transaction costs associated with geographic, cultural, and administrative distance matter to different degrees across PE firms, and that these differences are related to the strategic profiles of the firms.

The importance of sensory perception and sensory stimulation in creating pleasant consumption experiences has received increasing attention within recent years. Yet, while numerous studies investigate antecedents and consequences of sensory perception specific to a certain sense (vision, touch, audition, smell, and taste), limited research addresses sensation from a broader perspective by examining what constitutes "sensing" in sensations. Multiple studies are employed to investigate the totality of sensation rather than any sense specific sensation, by framing sensational experiences within the long tradition of atmospherics research. JOHNSON CITY Dr. Debbie Byrd has been named the new dean of the Gatton College of Pharmacy at East Tennessee State University, effective July 1.

She succeeds the current dean, Dr. Larry Calhoun, who announced he would retire from the role on June 30 after serving as dean of pharmacy since the school opened in 2005.

Byrd comes to ETSU from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in Knoxville where she has served as associate dean of Professional Affairs since 2010. She has worked at UT-Knoxville since 2006, holding various other roles including professor and assistant dean. She also …
