The Impact Of High-Order Risk Attitudes On Bank's Loan Policy, Yuchen Luo Oct 2015

The Impact Of High-Order Risk Attitudes On Bank's Loan Policy, Yuchen Luo

Lingnan Theses

It is well known that prudence plays an important role in the process of decision making under uncertainties. However, how prudence affects a bank's decision on extending fixed rate or variable rate loan has not yet been fully examined. In this dissertation, I use definition of second-order expectation dependence to further identify conditions for the risk prudent (imprudent) bank under state-dependent framework to refrain from extending fixed rate loans. Furthermore, using a set of actual data, I apply a recent developed inference procedure for testing positive expectation dependence to demonstrate the significance of my work in empirical applications. In the …

Canadian Travelers In Montana: Traveler Profiles By Purpose Of Trip To The State, Kara Grau, Brian Battaglia

This report presents information about Canadian travelers in Montana, as part of ITRR’s ongoing study of nonresident visitors to the state. Much of the information gathered as a result of the study can be accessed by users of ITRR’s Interactive Data website: http://www.tourismresearchmt.org/ However, there are some limitations with the way data can be selected using the website. An interest in knowing more about Canadians who visited Montana for specific reasons has been expressed, but the data cannot be selected this way on the website. Therefore, this report serves as a summary of characteristics of Canadian travelers who were in …

There are many change initiatives reported today that are failing to deliver the expected results. Before purchasing a car, consumers review the information on the quality, reliability, safety and customer satisfaction to minimize their risk of purchasing a car with defects. Two major sources of such information are Consumer Reports and surveys by J. D. Power and Associates: Initial Quality Survey and Vehicle Dependability Study). These reports have established a reputation for their independence, reliability and unbiased opinions. The purpose of this paper is to determine whether consumers rely on these reports in purchasing a new car, and if this is the case, which report has more impact on consumer purchasing behavior. The impact of …

How Are Concerns About Errors And Ethics Related To Demands For Information Systems Audits?, Joseph S. Mollick Ph. D Oct 2015

How Are Concerns About Errors And Ethics Related To Demands For Information Systems Audits?, Joseph S. Mollick Ph. D

Communications of the IIMA

What factors affect individuals' demands that information systems (IS) audits are implemented in the organizations with which they do business? Using concepts and constructs from theoretical literature on individuals’ concerns about organizational information management practices, we build a theoretical model that can explain and predict individuals' demand for information systems audit in organizations. Using data from U. S. university students, we empirically test two hypotheses using a multiple regression model. It was found that students’ concern about error in data and their concern about organizational ethics of information management positively affect students’ demand for IS audit at U. S. universities.

The Effects Of Text Complexity On Online Review Helpfulness, Michael J. Hine Oct 2015

The Effects Of Text Complexity On Online Review Helpfulness, Michael J. Hine

Communications of the IIMA

This research reported in this paper extends the literature on the helpfulness of online reviews. Previous research has assessed online reviews using standard unidimensional readability algorithms. This research extends previous work by investigating a multidimensional framework, and associated measures, of text complexity and its impact on the helpfulness of online reviews. Results show that as the amount of passive voice and negation in online reviews increase, the helpfulness of said review decreases. Other significant predictors of review helpfulness include word meaningfulness, lexical diversity, and the number of modifiers per noun phrase.

It Certification: Demand, Characteristics And Integration Into Traditional University Mis Curriculum, Mohammad A. Rob Oct 2015

It Certification: Demand, Characteristics And Integration Into Traditional University Mis Curriculum, Mohammad A. Rob

Communications of the IIMA

The value of IT certification is a subject of debate. IT magazines suggest that certifications can provide opportunities for new positions, promotions or salary increases to existing employees. Research suggests that IT certification can boost a fresh graduate’s profile to garner the attention of a hiring manager. Research also suggests that certification, education and experience are complimentary factors in the future job prospects of a candidate. For years, educators have been suggesting to include IT certifications in the traditional computing curricula of colleges and universities. However, due to a dearth of knowledge and commitment, faculty members have been reluctant to …

Consumer-To-Consumer Ecommerce: Acceptance And Intended Behavior, Lori N. K. Leonard, Kiku Jones Oct 2015

Consumer-To-Consumer Ecommerce: Acceptance And Intended Behavior, Lori N. K. Leonard, Kiku Jones

Communications of the IIMA

Consumer-to-consumer ecommerce is used by individuals who come together to buy and sell products. With the widespread use of this commerce environment comes the need to explore potential influences on its acceptance or one’s intention to use it. Using the technology acceptance model, the theory of planned behavior, and ecommerce success theory, a research model is proposed. After collecting 94 survey responses, the model is examined using regression analysis. The findings indicate that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude, and satisfaction influence one’s acceptance of or intention to use consumer-to-consumer ecommerce. A discussion of the study findings is provided.
