An Empirical Investigation Of The Uae Stock Markets., Safa Maatouq Ahmed Al Mohana Nov 2015

An Empirical Investigation Of The Uae Stock Markets., Safa Maatouq Ahmed Al Mohana

Dissertations

This thesis consists of six chapters. The first provides an overall introduction. The second offers a retrospective review of the development of the financial markets in the UAE from their start until now. The third chapter investigates empirically the casual nexus of the Abu Dhabi and Dubai stock markets in order to assess the degree of integration between these two domestic markets. To our best knowledge, this is the best attempt to explore domestic financial market integration within the context of the UAE. The fourth chapter extends the analysis in order to examine the degree of financial market integration of …

Using Sequential Mixed Methods In Enterprise Policy Evaluation: A Pragmatic Design Choice?, Anthony Paul Buckley Nov 2015

Using Sequential Mixed Methods In Enterprise Policy Evaluation: A Pragmatic Design Choice?, Anthony Paul Buckley

Articles

How might policy instruments contribute to indigenous firm growth and how can the effects of these instruments be evaluated at both firm and policy level? This paper illustrates how a mixed methods research design and data analysis strategy can pragmatically address the research questions outlined above. The advantages and challenges of employing quantitative research methods (what happened?) followed by confirmatory qualitative research methods (how and why did it happen?) in a multiphase sequential explanatory design is explored. The data analysis strategy is firstly to analyse the data generated from a ‘before and after’ quasi-experiment (with statistical controls), then data from …

Comparison Of Experienced And Inexperienced Consumers’ Utilisation Of Extrinsic Cues In Product Evaluation, Yoonjeun Kim, Kiwan Park, Yaeri Kim, Chung

Asia Marketing Journal

This study compares experienced and inexperienced consumers’ patterns in cue utilisation in product evaluations in the arts market. Borrowing the notion of high- and low-scope cues introduced by the cue-diagnosticity framework, we differentiate between the two most readily discernible extrinsic cues in the fine arts market – an art gallery’s brand reputation (a high-scope cue) and certificates of authenticity (a low-scope cue). These two cues are different in nature; the former is more abstract, intangible, and rich in content, so is more difficult to interpret than the latter. Given the differences in experienced and inexperienced consumers’ information processing styles, we …

The Roles Of Money’S Pride And Surprise Tag On The Use Of Money, Cong Liu, Nak Hwan Choi

Asia Marketing Journal

The present research examined the interesting but less attended effects of pride- and surprise-tagged money on consumers’ spending decisions. Focusing on the unexpected money received in their daily life, we explored recipient’s judgments and responses toward pride-tagged money versus surprise-tagged, and identified differences in types of recipient’s consumption and spending behaviors between the pride- tagged money and the surprise-tagged money. Consumers tend to use the money associated with pride (vs. surprise) to reward their invested effort; as a result, they were more likely to buy a personal gift. Moreover, in the context of self-gift, consumers with pride-tagged money have showed …

The Antecedents And Consequences Of Effective Brand Positioning, Changju Kim, Eunji Seo, Junghwa Hong, Kang, Stephen J. Newell

Asia Marketing Journal

This study investigates which variables most effectively influence the positioning strategy of a brand. In addition, we test the connection between the positioning strategy of the brand and loyalty. Finally, we explore how brand experience effects the relationship between brand position and brand loyalty. To this end, this study employs the street-intercept method to collect data on consumers’ perception of home appliances in Japan and conducts structural equation modeling analysis to test our hypotheses. Specifically, we find that assessments of product, service, and image have a significant impact on a brand’s position which, in turn, drives brand loyalty. In addition, …

The Effect Of New Brand’S Entry On The Price Strategy Of Incumbent Retailers, Suhhyue Lee Oct 2015

The Effect Of New Brand’S Entry On The Price Strategy Of Incumbent Retailers, Suhhyue Lee

Asia Marketing Journal

According to Resource Dependence theory, an organization’s behavior and strategy is affected by external resources. An organization has diverse resources interacting with environment. Because organization cannot focus on all those resources, it concentrates on its critical resources. In market environment, firm responds to other firms by controlling their internal critical resources or manages interdependency with environment to get market share. When new brand enters, incumbents might change their strategy to protect their market share depending on critical value. More precisely, incumbents sharing market with entrant …

Cbfa 2015 Business And Human Flourishing - A Holistic Visual Model, John Visser

Faculty Work Comprehensive List

The reputation and, to a lesser degree the practice of business, perhaps more than those of any other institution, suffer from the kind of reductionism that is the stepchild of dualistic and secular thinking. Some business-bashing is deserved, since some businesses operate in a very opportunistic ways, but much of it can be traced back to a misunderstanding of what business is and does. Unfortunately, once we have been fooled into thinking that life can be compartmentalized, and that we can wall off religious beliefs from the rest of life, and that our economic lives belong on the secular side …

Examining The Dynamics Of Cooperation Between Competing Firms In Their R&D Activities (R&D Co-Opetition), Fakhraddin Maroofi

The South East Asian Journal of Management

The relationship between collaboration with competitors and goods innovation performance was investigated along with the moderating effect of the innovating firm's technological capability. The hypothesis that collaboration with competitors has an inverted U-shaped relationship with goods innovation performance was tested using data on new goods introductions from 749 Iranian firms. The results support the balance between competition and collaboration by confirming that collaboration with competitors contributes considerably to successful goods innovation. The positive influences of co-optation certainly seem consistent with the cooperative arguments that collaboration with competitors increases absorptive capacity, improves information exchange and facilitates joint problem solving. The results …

The finding indicates that the organizational business performance can be greatly increased by putting greater emphasis to CSR measures. The results also reveal …

By classifying the airports based on two operators, this study finds thatairports under the management of Angkasa Pura 1 (AP1) show higher productivitygrowth than Angkasa Pura 2 (AP2), whose growth is mainly driven by technicalprogress in apron areas. Moreover, the productivity decline of AP2 was mostlydue to inefficient use of terminal areas.

This study employed 141 auditors from several accounting firms operating in the Greater Jakarta region. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. Three mediation hypotheses were tested using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results show that work overload has a significant effect on increasing turnover intention through both job satisfaction and work related stress. In comparison, work overload does not …

Employee Retaliation Against Abusive Supervision: Testing The Distinction Between Overt And Covert Retaliation, Derek Michael Hutchinson Oct 2015

Employee Retaliation Against Abusive Supervision: Testing The Distinction Between Overt And Covert Retaliation, Derek Michael Hutchinson

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study attempted to expand previous research on employee retaliation against abusive supervision by evaluating both overt and covert retaliatory behaviors and the different mechanisms behind these behaviors. Initial confirmatory factor analysis did not find substantial support for a two-factor retaliation construct, but this may have been a result of the nature of behavioral retaliation items that composed the measures. Correlational analyses did not demonstrate clear discriminate validity between overt and overt retaliation; additionally, regression analyses did not find support for high performing or highly political skilled employees retaliating primarily through one form of retaliation. Highly political skilled and high …
