JOHNSON CITY Students in Dr. Arpita Nandis Engineering Geology class at East Tennessee State University recently enjoyed some unseasonably warm February weather while learning about the ongoing Boone Dam Project during a class tour.

This is the second class tour of Boone Dam coordinated by Nandi, associate professor and chair of the ETSU Department of Geosciences, who has also taken students to Center Hill Dam in Nashville, as well as to sites of landslides and other geo-hazard sites in the region.

Geosciences is a career-centric discipline.  Through the Boone Dam site visit, students could see the real-world application of what …

BFA graphic design alum Justin Doak wrote and illustrated the children's book The Wendigo's Woods. Doak's book is based on the unsavory legend of the Wendigo, who's roots spawn from Native American lore. He re-imagines the Wendigo, which finds a new home in children's literature with 31 woodcut-inspired illustrations.

Through a critique of existing financial theory underlying current accounting practices, and reapplication of this theory to a broad group of stakeholders, this paper lays a normative foundation for a revised perspective on the responsibility of the public accounting profession. Specifically, we argue that the profession should embrace the development of standards for reporting information important to a broader group of stakeholders than just investors and creditors. The FASB has recently moved in the opposite direction. Nonetheless, an institution around accounting for stakeholders continues to grow, backed by a groundswell of support from many sources. An exploratory study of undergraduate students enrolled in marketing courses at a Southeastern regional university was conducted to determine the motivations and characteristics of marketing students who plan to be online learners and examined for differences between those who have taken and those who have not taken online classes. An online survey of Likert scales, openended questions and demographic questions was sent via class learning management websites. A total of 165 students of the 438 invited to participate completed the survey. A structural model was developed using SMART-PLS to estimate the relationships of constructs that predict taking online courses. Results …

The practice of socially responsible investing (SRI) has grown over the last century. A variation of this practice known as biblically responsible investing (BRI) has accompanied part of this growth. The introduction of non-financial criteria into the investment process has the potential to put an advisor’s counsel in opposition to the primary goal of investing, namely, to gain a return on one’s investment (William, 2009). This paper contains an overview of socially and biblically responsible investing, and a discussion concerning the scriptural and ethical ramifications of advising clients to invest in BRI.

The Interplay Among Software Volatility, Complexity And Development Outcomes: Evidence From Open Source Software, Jorge A. Colazo

The study posits a mediating role of software complexity in the association between software volatility and different software development outcomes. Empirical tests using data from 326 open source software projects support such a partial mediating role of software complexity in the association between software volatility and development outcomes. Archival data is tested using an ordinary least squares mediated model. The paper uses productivity, defect count and development speed as dependent variables.

Cross-sector interactions have long occurred in the public delivery of goods, services, and interests. While scholars have often addressed cross-sector interactions using the dimensions of publicness (state) and privateness (market), an intersectoral framework necessitates the understanding and incorporation of nonprofitness to account for the dimensions of nonprofits along the public-private continuum. This article proposes a framework for identifying the dimensions of nonprofits in an intersectoral world and draws on relevant examples to illustrate the presence and influence of nonprofitness. Several prior studies have examined aspects of purposeful information search behavior as a necessary component of the formulation of business policy and strategy. This study used a sample of credit union managers to assess how the managers’ information search behavior related to various environmental sectors was affected by their perceived importance of those sectors. In Section One, the quality of these companies' financial reporting systems is carefully examined and evaluated.
