The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) rose by 0.08% in March 2015, marking its fourth consecutive monthly increase. The increase in the LEI-N, which predicts economic growth in the state six months in the future, suggests that growth will be solid in Nebraska in the second half of 2015. Three of six components of the leading economic indicator rose during March. Respondents to the Survey of Nebraska Business were optimistic about sales and especially optimistic about employment over the next six months. It is generally known that status consumption fulfils the hedonic needs of luxury goods consumers; affective response generated from the purchase behavior of luxury goods is linked to the display of wealth and symbolic meanings obtained from social standing. However, there is a paucity of studies on how the affective response of consumers influences their repurchase intention of luxury goods. Therefore, in this paper, the repurchase intention of luxury goods consumers is investigated, their motivations are examined, and how status consumption affects their affective response will be demonstrated. The profession of physical education (PE) teacher involves a variety of risks. Most PE teachers or future teachers are aware of the risks associated with their students becoming injured. Sport law classes often discuss negligence, risk management, proper supervision, suitable equipment, appropriate instruction, proper matching of opponents, etc. The focus is primarily or exclusively on student safety. Rarely is the focus on the risks PE teachers face themselves. This article discusses the largely neglected topics of transportation, workplace violence, and slip/trip and falls, all of which are occupational hazards for PE teachers, potentially associated with serious injuries or death.

The real estate investment trust (REIT) companies’ environment is interesting for testing direct compensation issues, because of their unique regulated characteristics. The agency theory posits that boards of directors should monitor managers’ activities for the firms’ stockholders. However, at the turn of century firm failures and the market crash in 2008 have led to increased stockholder activism and the passing of Sarbanes–Oxley in 2002 and Dodd-Frank in 2010. We modify the Dynamic Aggregate Demand – Aggregate Supply model in Mankiw’s widely-used Intermediate Macroeconomics textbook to discuss monetary policy when the natural real interest rate is falling. Our results highlight a new role for the central bank’s inflation target as a tool of macroeconomic stabilization. We show that even when the zero lower bound is not binding, a prudent central bank will need to match every decrease in the natural real interest rate with an equal increase in the target rate of inflation in order to stabilize the risk of the economy falling into a deflationary spiral – an …

When sales people put sales effort they face incentives not only from short term incentives like commissions and bonuses but also from long term rewards associated with progression in their career. Bryan Caplan’s The Myth of the Rational Voter popularizes the “near-neoclassical” demand curve for irrationality. This article attempts to show that there is a demand for irrationality at prices higher than zero. This may change policy implications. Many instances of consumer behavior, such as paying a premium for locally produced and “fair trade” goods, the use of local currencies, and the failure to vaccinate children, are other instances of the means-ends irrationality that Caplan observes in political markets.

Abstract: This paper considers how Bryan Caplan’s concept of rational irrationality may manifest in various political institutional arrangements, building off the demand curve for irrationality. Mob democracy, anarchy, autocracy, and constitutionally constrained democracy are the governance structures addressed. While anarchy is strictly better than mob democracy, under certain conditions, democracy, anarchy, or constitutionally constrained democracy may yield the best outcomes depending on the circumstances.

We used data from the Child Development Supplement (CDS) of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics in 2002 and 2007 to examine the relationship between the specific sport time spent during weekdays or weekends and American children’s body mass index (BMI). Time spent on out-of-school sports was recorded on a randomly selected weekday and a weekend day. Sports were further categorized as formal (organized sports such as sports games or lessons) or casual (any unorganized sports such as sports time in the neighborhood). Purpose – The purpose of this paper was to conduct an experimental design of Americans’ preferences for the English version of Chinese brand names by drawing from prior research in psychology, linguistics and marketing. The impact of string length and semantic relevance to English on meaningfulness, memorability and likeability of brand names from Chinese companies was assessed.
