Since more and more western customers are visiting and Chinese customers are having more hotel experience abroad, the service Chinese hotels used to provide dose not meet the standard anymore. So the managers and leaders need to find an appropriate approach to encourage their employees to improve the service to their customers. This research went through over 40 articles about Chinese hotel industry and Chinese culture and found out that servant leadership style should be the best approach to engage the employees.

Open Market Share Repurchase Programs And Corporate Governance: Company Performance, Gary Caton, Jeremy Goh, Yen Teik Lee, Scott C. Linn

Payout policies based on share repurchase programs provide greater flexibility than do those based on cash dividends. We develop and test an empirical model in which strongly-governed companies outperform weakly-governed companies after announcing share repurchase programs. Our findings include positive associations between strong governance and both post-announcement adjusted operating performance and abnormal stock returns. The results are robust to sample selection bias, different sample criteria, governance measurement, and various control variables. In addition, governance strength is associated with larger post-announcement changes in CEO incentive compensation and merger and acquisition activity, both of which we argue are consistent with strongly-governed companies …

Industry Interdependencies And Cross-Industry Return Predictability, David E. Rapach, Jack Strauss, Jun Tu, Guofu Zhou

We use the adaptive LASSO from the statistical learning literature to identify economically connected industries in a general framework that accommodates complex industry interdependencies. Our results show that lagged returns of interdependent industries are significant predictors of individual industry returns, consistent with gradual information diffusion across industries. Using network analysis, we find that industries with the most extensive predictive power are key central nodes in the production network of the U.S. economy. Further linking cross-return predictability to the real economy, lagged employment growth for the interdependent industries predicts individual industry employment growth. The main challenge for a container terminal is to maximize its throughput using limited resources subject to various operational constraints under uncertainty. Traditional methods try to achieve this through an optimized plan by solving a quay crane scheduling problem; but the plan may become obsolete or infeasible after shocks (changes in the system due to uncertainty). To respond to shocks these methods require frequent re-planning, which increases the operations cost. We propose a new method to counter this. Instead of creating plans, we develop an operating protocol to respond to shocks without re-planning. Under this protocol, each quay crane along …

PEG is a newer investment ratio measure of a security’s PE ratio divided by the firm’s growth rate as a percentage. It is examined and contrasted with other investment valuation measures. PEG is shown to be problematic in terms of its units of measure, in what it purports to appropriately determine, and it is non monotonic for relatively profitable firms and is only slightly indicative of correct security selection for relatively unprofitable firms.

Past research has examined the die-hard fans’ characteristics, consumption behaviors, and attending motivation of avid sport fans. The study further evaluated those fans’ characteristics and motivation through a series of qualitative interview questions based on the conceptual frameworks of loyalty, fan motivation, fan identity, and “sport-as-religion.” The participants were 24 season-ticket holders of a Mid-west professional football team who also identified themselves as a fan of football, baseball, basketball, and hockey. Their fanship varied from collegiate to professional level teams of various locations. Over the past 35 years, Great Depression era regulatory restrictions on the geographic area of operation and the scope of financial services banks can offer have change significantly. These changes fueled a surge of merger activity and resulted in a 70% decrease in the number of bank charters by 2015. Currently, community banks hold only 14% of bank assets in the US; nonetheless, they play an important role in the US economy because they continue to provide the majority of funding to small businesses. of the relationship between publicly traded U.S. restaurant firms’ internationalization as a

corporate strategy and risks using a comprehensive set of risk measures: 1) market-based risk (i.e., systematic and unsystematic risk) and 2) accounting-based risk (i.e., standard deviation of return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), and earnings per share (EPS) during the period of 2000-2013.
