Are They Different? Ceos Made In Ceo Factories, Ye Cai, Merih Sevilir, Jun Yang

We examine the employment histories of CEOs at large US companies and find that a disproportionately large number of CEOs are originated from a small number of high-profile firms that are praised for their superior abilities in training and developing corporate leaders, referred to as CEO factories. Specifically, 20.5% of all CEOs appointed at the S&P 1500 firms from 1992 to 2010 came from 36 CEO factories. CEOs originated from those CEO factories are referred to as factory CEOs. Do Entrepreneurs Make Good Vcs?, Ye Cai, Merih Sevilir, Xuan Tian

Using hand-collected data on the backgrounds of venture capitalists (VCs), we show that in a typical venture capital firm in our sample, 13.9% of VCs have been entrepreneurs before becoming a VC, referred to as entrepreneur VCs. Both OLS and 2SLS analyses suggest that venture capital firms employing a greater fraction of entrepreneur VCs have better performance. In addition, the positive effect of entrepreneur VCs on venture capital firm performance is stronger for smaller and younger venture capital firms, and venture capital firms specializing in high-tech industries and in early-stage investments. This presentation introduces a newly developed social work group intervention model in workforce development. Transforming Impossible into Possible (TIP) program empowers participants to develop self-awareness, confidence, hope, goal-orientation, leadership, accountability, conscientiousness, and grit, it is anticipated that it improves both employment and retention outcomes.

The United Nations supported Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), has identified Corporate Peace as an important component of fostering peaceful societies. This includes the need for companies to incorporate peace and reduction of violence into their core business strategy. Realisation of business strategy requires alignment with all organisational business functions, including human resource management. I propose that one avenue toward Corporate Peace, particularly in contexts of protracted and violent political conflict, is through conflict-sensitive human resource management practices in the areas of employee support, participation, and integration. This year we are at that point again where a race of approximately two minutes and twenty seconds will either end a remarkable era of Triple Crown futility or extend it for yet another year. In this research, the author proposes to study the feasibility of applying ISO shipping containers as alternative construction materials. Using retired shipping containers for dwellings, offices or other construction purposes is an environmentally friendly idea. The "green generation" constitutes a battle against harmful effects of industrial developments. Motivated by the green movement, this research addressed the recycling of shipping containers in the construction market. Particularly, this research studied the recycling of shipping containers for the purpose of student housing construction.

The social casino and real money gambling industries, including gambling at online and live venues (such as casino resorts), are quickly converging (H2 Gambling Capital & Odobo, 2013). Differences in demographics and gambling behaviors for different frequencies of social casino participation among real money online gamblers are examined to explore customer behaviors between the two markets. Frequency of play in social casino games varied depending on gender and education, similar to patterns in real money gambling. Cross-selling different types of games could provide an opportunity for casino operators to generate additional time and money spent on gaming from existing patrons. One way to identify the patrons who are likely to cross-play is mining individual players’ gaming data using predictive analytics. Hence, this study aims to predict casino patrons’ propensity to play both slots and table games, also known as cross-gaming, by applying a data-mining algorithm to patrons’ gaming data. The Exhaustive Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detector (E-CHAID) method was employed to predict cross-gaming propensity. We explore the impact of regulatory supply constraints on house price levels following boom and bust periods in London. We hypothesize that when regulatory restrictiveness increases during a boom period, house prices will be higher in the following year compared to house prices in less restricted areas. We also hypothesize that when regulatory restrictiveness increases during a bust period, house prices will be lower in the following year compared to house prices in less restricted areas. 8,435 residents responded to a survey about their bicycling participation, safety issues and knowledge of laws. Results showed that most residents are not familiar with Montana bicycling laws and do not feel that highways are safe places to bicycle. Forty-six percent of Montana residents 18 and over have bicycled in the past 12 months and of those, only 11 percent bicycled in the winter while 97 percent bicycled in the summer season. Most bicyclists rode within a community on a roadway (62%) followed by 48 percent who rode on a paved path. The smallest number was highway bicycling, where 12 …

Target date (i.e., lifecycle) funds are increasing in popularity, particularly among unsophisticated investors. These funds provide key benefits, as they automatically rebalance through time and also generally limit return chasing. Given the dollar cost averaging effect, the result may also be a higher (dollar-weighted) average return. On the downside, the target date funds may choose underlying funds in each category that benefit the fund family more than the investor. However, for most investors, the benefits would generally outweigh the potential disadvantages. See article here, WSJ.

The importance of finding appropriate leadership styles to use in cross-cultural situations is paramount.
