In this study, we tried to evaluate the relative importance and find out the differences in consumer perceptions regarding service recovery strategies and the service provider in the distribution industry by using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis method. It is becoming increasingly difficult for advertisers to reach target consumers because memory for an ad is inhibited in the presence of competing ads. While previous studies have focused on ad repetition as a factor that can reduce competitive interference, this study focuses on ad distinctiveness. We compare the effects of ad distinctiveness on recall for the ad and its competing ad in high competitive ad environments with those in relatively low competitive ad environments. Relatively little studies have investigated employee recovery from internal service failure, especially from the employees’ perspective. When handling customer complaints, employees must not only deal with legitimate customer demands after a service failure, such as providing an apology, rectifying the problem, and offering compensation, but they must also manage illegitimate dysfunctional customers, who may yell, threaten, and even physically harm the employee. Research Brief: "Military Veterans Marching Towards Entrepreneurship: An Exploratory Mixed Methods Study", Institute For Veterans And Military Families At Syracuse University

Institute for Veterans and Military Families

This study investigates whether a community entrepreneurial education program fuels entrepreneurial passion and increases consultations for veterans. In practice, transitioning service members should consider participating in entrepreneurship training courses with mentors and consult their informal networks. In policy, the VA and policymakers might partner to create more opportunities for veterans and civilians. Suggestions for future research include having a broader sample size, as well as measuring the structured entrepreneurship training courses' effectiveness.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of linkage program between Islamic Banking (IB) and Baitul Maal Wat Tamwil (BMT) on BMT financing growth and profitability. This study also aims to compare three linkage models and to explore the keys factors that affect the implementation of linkage program. To achieve these objectives, both quantitative and qualitative research methods are employed. The dataset consists of the financial statement of 26 BMT in Indonesia and interviews with 12 managers of BMT and IB in Jakarta. This study develops a model of expropriation through real earnings management (REM) in the Indonesian Islamic banking industry. The purpose of this study is to test a new model by examining the relationship between REM, bank ownership types, and performance of Islamic banks in Indonesia in the period of 2006 - 2013. This study finds that there are significant differences in REM and performance scores in banks with different ownership types. The REM and performance scores for family-owned banks and private-owned banks are relatively similar. This study focuses on the behavior of open-ended mutual fund investors when encountered with multiple information signals of mutual fund’s historical performance. The behavior of investors can be reflected on their decision to subscribe or redeem their funds from mutual funds. Moreover, we observe the presence of ambiguity within investors due to multiple information signals, and also their reaction towards it. Our finding shows that open-ended mutual fund investors do not only have sensitivity towards past performance information signals, but also have additional sensitivity towards the ambiguity of multiple information signals. Modeling the correlation of assets returns volatilities across different markets or segments of a market has practical value for portfolio selection and diversification, market regulation, and risk management. This paper therefore evaluates the nature of time-varying correlation between volatilities of stock market and crude oil returns in Nigeria using Dynamic Conditional Correlation-Generalised Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (DCC-GARCH) model. Results from DCC-GARCH (1,1) model show evidence of volatility clustering and persistence in Nigeria stock market and crude oil returns. Institutional processes for regulating government-nonprofit relations in the U.S. are experiencing substantial growth, particularly at the state level. First, cabinet-level nonprofit “tsars” are being appointed by state governments as point persons for communication and coordination with nonprofits. Second, high-level cross-sector task forces are being established to examine the current relations between the sectors and to recommend reforms in regulatory and oversight processes. Third, nonprofit industry associations are developing statements of operating standards that seek to promote greater discipline in operations. This study was conducted for the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce/Convention and Visitor Bureau to provide insight into the characteristics of attendees to the Montana State High School Rodeo Finals event. Paper surveys were completed by 154 attendees of the event. Results show that 93% of attendees were residents of Montana and of those 67% came from outside of Flathead County. Visitors to the Flathead Valley area spent an average of 3.72 nights in Kalispell. More people spent money on restaurant/bar, hotel/motel and retail goods while visiting the area than other spending categories. In last year’s event hotels/motels received the highest …

This past Tuesday the U.S. Justice Department announced that it was dropping the obstruction of justice case against Barry Bonds. He had been charged with perjury and obstruction of justice in 2007 for testifying to a grand jury that he had never knowingly used anabolic steroids or human growth hormone, Bonds’ testimony was given to the grand jury in 2003 as part of a federal investigation into steroid use by athletes popularly known as the BALCO case. Estimates of the cost of this failed pursuit of Bonds run upwards of $100M.

Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death in the United States, cost Americans $277 billion annually, and generate serious psychological burdens. As a result, extensive vehicle safety research focusing on the explanatory factors of crash severity is undertaken using a wide array of methodological techniques including traditional statistical models and contemporary data mining approaches. Money spent by those traveling to and through Montana has an effect not only on the businesses where spending occurs, but it ripples throughout the state’s economy, as well. Statewide, spending by nonresidents (averaged over two years) totaled $3.79 billion. This report details the methods and results of the economic impact analyses for each of Montana’s travel regions, as well as analyses for counties in which nonresident travelers spent approximately $50 million or more.

The design of an effective legal compliance system for an organization fearing prosecution for white-collar crime or regulatory violations requires skill at predicting human behavior. It is entirely plausible to use the economist’s simplifying assumptions of rational choice and pecuniary self-interest in making these predictions. But the realism of these assumptions has been under attack for decades now, suggesting that we should at least consider more nuanced behavioral possibilities when designing and implementing compliance programs.
