The purpose of this study was to replicate and expand upon the survey research by Erffmeyer and Mendel (1990) on the perceived relevance of graduate training in industrial-organizational (I-O) psychology at the terminal master’s level. A review of the literature discussed core competencies, as well as the advantages of internship experiences and thesis requirements. Results indicated that graduates view their training as well targeted towards knowledge and skills they regard as useful at their internship, first job, and current position. Results also indicated that graduates viewed their internship experiences as highly beneficial and worthwhile experiences, regardless of their supervisor. Results …

This is a study about abnormal characteristics in the stock market and how to successfully use them in personal portfolios. Market anomalies are unexpected excess returns that occur in relation to certain variables. Five commonly known market anomalies (market cap, price-earnings ratio, price-book value, momentum, volatility) are tested to give evidence for their presence. Existing variables are then combined in different portfolios in order to observe whether they generate greater excess returns combined rather than individually. This study will also reveal whether long-term holding is possible and how the anomalies react in bullish and bearish markets.

Respondents to the April 2014 Survey of Nebraska Business remained positive in their outlook for sales and employment at their business. More respondents expected sales to rise (31%) than decline (18%) in the next six months. Further, more respondents expected to add (10%) than to reduce (4%) employment. Respondents also were more focused on the market challenges facing their businesses. When asked about the most important issue facing their business, 6.5 in 10 focused on core business operations issues such as customer demand, the cost of supplies, labor quality, competition, improved business practices, and credit availability. 3.5 in 10 focused …

Each year in the National Hockey League, teams travel thousands of miles, coast to coast, to play hockey. Each year there are also hundreds of injuries, and thousands of man games lost in the league. While there has been substantial research on how travel can affect Circadian Rhythms, no research has connected this with injury in the NHL. Consumer-centric corporate social responsibility studies have focused on consumer evaluation of CSR perceptions (Stanaland, Lwin, and Murphy 2011) without addressing the consumer’s CSR expectations (e.g. Russell and Russell 2010, Schuhwerk and Lefkoff-Hagius 1995, Sen and Bhattacharya 2001). This discovery motivates this study that utilizes the expectancy confirmation/disconfirmation paradigm (Erevelles and Leavitt 1992; Oliver 1985; Tse and Wilton 1988) to offer novel insights of consumers’ evaluations of CSR information and subsequent consequences in terms of customer satisfaction, referral, purchase intention and willingness to pay premium. The aim of this paper is to carry out a Bayesian econometric application. Using a dataset obtained from Wooldridge's Introductory Econometrics textbook, each step in conducting a Bayesian econometric analysis is performed and explained. For illus- trative and comparative purposes, two limited dependent variable regression forms were used: a linear probability model and a probit model. This paper covers the ben- ets of Bayesian methodology, including selection of distributions for the prior and the likelihood. Additionally, a series of diagnostic checks are done after the models are computed.

Ubiquitous investment strategies often include similar forms of diversification – holding stocks of differing industries, exposed to different business cycles, in order to reduce idiosyncratic risk. During the recession, these strategies failed as the markets fell substantially leaving investors exposed to great amounts of systematic, or “un-diversifiable” risk. Throughout this paper, I will examine the effects of diversifying a portfolio using call options on the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) to try and alleviate systematic risk from a portfolio, allowing an investor to capitalize from short-term market fluctuations arising from financial, economic, and geopolitical risks.

This paper seeks to research the turn-of-the-month anomaly in the stock market. Prior studies have covered the anomaly’s effect from 1962-2004. This study continues on the work of past research while also testing to find a shift backwards to the end of the month due to market timers anticipation of the anomaly. Empirical analysis is conducted using CRSP data of value and equal weighted market indexes along with historical returns of the S&P 500 from the Wharton Data Research Institute.
