The Disparity Between Long-Term And Short-Term Forecasted Earnings Growth, Zhi Da, Mitch Warachka

Business Faculty Articles and Research

We find the disparity between long-term and short-term analyst forecasted earnings growth is a robust predictor of future returns and long-term analyst forecast errors. After adjusting for industry characteristics, stocks whose long-term earnings growth forecasts are far above or far below their implied short-term forecasts for earnings growth have negative and positive subsequent risk-adjusted returns along with downward and upward revisions in long-term forecasted earnings growth, respectively. Additional results indicate that investor inattention toward firm-level changes in long-term earnings growth is responsible for these risk-adjusted returns.

A Cross-Cultural Investigation Of Generational Differences In Values Between Hispanics In The United States And Four Latin American Countries, Edward Francis Murphy, Julia Teahen, Regina A. Greenwood

We examined similarities and differences in generational values and value orientation of 4,952 working adults in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico as compared to those of US Hispanics. US Hispanics demonstrated a primary value orientation of High Social/High Moral that is different from the four Latin American countries but closer to respondents from Argentina and Brazil because their primary value orientation type matches the secondary value orientation type of US respondents. Additionally, generational value schema was more similar in Latin American countries than in the US. Implications of these findings, study limitations and recommendations for further research are also discussed.

The Effects Of Directional Audit Guidance And Estimation Uncertainty On Auditor Confirmation Bias And Professional Skepticism When Evaluating Fair Value Estimates, Norma R. Montague

In this study, I examine the effects of audit guidance and estimation uncertainty on auditors’ confirmation bias and professional skepticism when evaluating fair value estimates. Fair value estimation is becoming more prevalent in financial reporting frameworks, and regulators warn that fair value estimation presents higher risk of material misstatement when greater judgment in estimation is involved. In addition recent evidence from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) indicates that some auditors may not be exercising sufficient professional skepticism when performing audit procedures in higher risk areas of the audit. This lecture is divided into four parts. I would begin by narrating the pre-requisites for economic stability and growth at a generalized level drawing on the experience of the last six decades. Then I would dwell upon the positive factors in Pakistan that can influence the rate of economic growth. Next I take up the negative domestic factors that are impeding the path of economic growth followed by the external shocks that have worsened the situation.

He worked for Coca-Cola selling Minute Maid orange juice as an unpaid worker in order to gain experience in the advertising field. Coca-Cola hired Joe and he began working in New Products bringing new items to local grocery stores. A key element of successful organisations is the alignment of their strategy and tactics. This study explores the relationship between a firm’s competitive strategy and its operations practices in the context of a developing economy. Two competitive strategies are examined; a niche market strategy characterised by targeting specific market segments, and a broad market strategy characterised by serving a wide range of market segments. Three sets of operations practices consistent with the adoption of lean manufacturing, Total Quality Management, and relationship development in a supply chain context, are explored. In a slot exchange co-operation, participating carriers seek to benefit in which their surplus of controlled capacities can be shared to exchange slots belong to partners for their shortages. To each participant, whether the exchanged conditions can bring more benefits is based on its slot allocation planning. This paper introduces a practical slot exchange contract for multiple short sea loops between two co-operative carriers. Two integer programming models for maximizing the concerned profits are proposed to satisfy the expected demand level and shipping properties. The purpose of this study is to provide an alternative approach in importance-performance analysis (IPA) for improving service performance. Two measures, service performance index (SPI) and service improvement score (SIS), will be developed and included in the proposed approach which attempts to utilize both information directly reported by the respondents and indirectly estimated from model estimation as much as possible in IPA. For illustrating the proposed approach, the service performance improvement decision of an international container shipping company is studied.
