A Stakeholder Identity Orientation Approach To Corporate Social Performance In Family Firms, John B. Bingham, W. Gibb Dyer Jr., Isaac Smith, Gregory L. Adams

Extending the dialogue on corporate social performance (CSP) as descriptive stakeholder management (Clarkson, Acad Manage Rev 20:92, 1995), we examine differences in CSP activity between family and nonfamily firms. We argue that CSP activity can be explained by the firm’s identity orientation toward stakeholders (Brickson, Admin Sci Quart 50:576, 2005; Acad Manage Rev 32:864, 2007). Specifically, individualistic, relational, or collectivistic identity orientations can describe a firm’s level of CSP activity toward certain stakeholders. Family firms, we suggest, adopt a more relational orientation toward their stakeholders than nonfamily firms, and thus engage in higher levels of CSP. Further, we invoke collectivistic …

This disertation discourses the contract of mudarabah and its application in the general takaful at PT. Asuransi Takaful Umum Jakarta,Indonesia. The study focuses on the application, profit calculation and some relevant issues in general takaful product. The takaful company itself in form of annual report and also from interviews with the respective officers. It was found from the study that Asuransi Takaful Umum has appliced the mud}a>rabah contract in accordance with the shariah requirement which is to uphold justice, ensure mutual benefits and to avoid riba>, gharar ,maysir and dishonesty.

Financial management practices predicting good financial well-being and participation in risky assets among families were identified in this study. It also seeks to find out other factors predicting financial well-being and participation in risky assets. Associations of time horizon with risk preference, and risk preference with financial management practices, differences in financial management practices among the main ethnicities in Malaysia and among families residing in urban and rural areas were also determined.
