Exploring Tourism Development Potential: Resident Attitudes In Phillips County, Mt, Holly Praytor, Thale Dillon

Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research Publications

Results from a Resident Attitude Survey conducted in Phillips County, Montana. Residents were surveyed to determine opinions toward tourism development in their community. The results are compared to a sample of statewide attitudes toward tourism and includes current nonresident visitor profiles. This report is part of the 2001-2002 Community Tourism Assessment Process (CTAP).

Selecting the right technologies to incorporate in new products is a particularly challenging aspect of new product definition and development. While newer advanced technologies may offer improved performance, they also make the product development process more risky and challenging. In this paper, we focus on the problem of technology selection and commitment under uncertainty, a major challenge to firms in turbulent environments. We argue that the ''pizza-bin'' approach of rejecting prospective technologies outright may not serve firms well when the pressure to differentiate products is enormous. The opportunity to attend the Winter Olympics was something I never really thought I would have, but due to a number of coincidental circumstances and the generosity of friends I was able to attend the first ten days of the games.

The Olympic experience in person is considerably, perhaps even radically, different from the Olympic experience on television, especially American television. NBC's "virtually live" Olympics, which we were told was necessary during the games from Sydney because of the great time difference, continues at the Winter Games for some complex of other bogus reasons offered up by NBC.

On Sport and Society

The first thing that you need to know coming from Florida is that it is called the Winter Olympics because it takes place in the winter. Therefore it is cold. At times it is bitterly cold, but most of the time it is just cold. As this was my first Olympics and the Winter Games are my favorite none of this mattered as we headed off for Olympic Park and the 90m ski jumping competition on Sunday.

Watching the Super Bowl on Sunday one could not avoid being moved by some aspect or another of the patriotism on display. 9/11 remains strong in the memory of us all and as I noted last September sport does provide us with opportunities for collective mourning, remembrance, and expressions of patriotism. I also noted that it is a characteristic of Americans to move toward excess in almost everything we do in public ritual.

The United States Air Force (AF) has experienced a downward trend in retention of information systems (IS) workers over the past five years. This research draws on the employee turnover model proposed by Mobley et al. (1979) and the work of Schein (1987) to measure the career anchors, job satisfaction, and turnover intention of AF IS workers to determine if those whose job type and career anchor match report higher satisfaction and lower turnover intention than those with a mismatch.
