Depth Jumping: A Comparison Of The Most Effective Depth Jumping Techniques In The Improvement Of Power/Vertical Jumping, Stefan Darvishi

A four week depth jump training program was conducted to determine if there is a significant difference between bounce drop Jump technique and counter drop jump technique in improving leg power as measured by vertical jumping height. Eleven college females, age 18 to 21, involved in the sport of volleyball and basketball served as subjects in this investigation. Following pre-testing, the subjects were assigned to one of two treatment groups based on the sports they played. Both groups participated in the training two sessions per week. This study was intended to determine whether there was a change in the disclosure of all loss contingencies associated with operational laws and regulations (i.e., environmental and non-environmental) and/or whether there was a complementary association between the environmental and non-environmental loss contingency disclosures during the period 1989 to 1999. In summary, the results of the study suggest (1) that there was an increase in all loss contingency disclosures associated with operational laws and regulations, and (2) that there was a complementary association between the environmental and non-environmental loss contingency disclosures.

The purpose of this research is to create a subjective measurement system that can assist in the successful creation of new information systems (IS). That entails moving from the commonly used objective measures of success (time and money constraints) to subjective measures (people's perceptions). Literature in the social perception area and goal congruence area has provided a basis for changing the measurement of success. Due to major differences in how people react to stimuli and perceived outcomes the objective measures must evolve to include subjective observations.

There has been an increasing interest in studying the cross sectional relationship between systematic risk (as measured by beta) and return due to the inability of unconditional models to explain this relationship and the empirical contradictions found for the Sharpe-Lintner-Black CAPM model. Extant research on developed stock markets shows a significant relationship between beta and return when it is conditional to up and down markets. This paper tries to identify some of the main trends in central Banks reserve management in recent years. lt describes some significant changes, which have taken place, with regard to the objectives and investment policies of central banks, while pointing out some elements that could noticeably slow or even reverse the trends identified. The study reveals reserve management has continued to evolve broadly in the areas of securitisation, return maximization, use of derivates and performance measurement. Secondly, in response to the increasing volatility of financial variables, central banks have at the same time continued to place emphasis on liquidity constraints.

This paper evaluates the contribution of housing policy in Singapore to financial sector development, housing wealth formation and macro-economic performance, both retrospectively and prospectively. It provides an overview of past housing policies and traces the linkages to the financial sector. Housing policy as effected through the Housing and Development Board and the Central Provident Fund (CPF) hampered the development of the commercial housing loans sector and domestic financial markets, but contributed to the overall growth and stability of the housing loans market and associated financial institutions. Where are health care marketers focusing their online efforts?What returns are marketers seeing from their Internet initiatives and investments? These are some of the questions we have been tracking since 1995 when we conducted the first-ever study to examine the ways that hospital marketers around the country were using the Internet and other emerging technology to promote their organizations. In the most recent survey, we look at what health care marketers are doing online and take the pulse of an industry grappling with rapid change and as yet unproven Internet strategies.

The Certified Public Accountant has always been subject to scrutiny by the legal system to ensure that the interest of the public is best served. In fact, over the last thirty years, the number of malpractice suits against accountants has increased. The increase in accountant malpractice litigation is a result of the public's perception that the CPA guarantees the accuracy of financial statements, and that the CPA has sizeable financial resources, along with malpractice insurance. Researchers examined earnings-forecast revisions and stock returns after release of the Focus List of poorly performing companies by the Council of Institutional Investors. Using Tobin's q as a measure of a company's ability to improve performance, researchers found significant and positive abnormal forecast revisions and post-release stock returns for companies with q greater than one. Findings support the proposition that institutional activism is effective for underperforming companies - but only those companies with the ability to respond to the challenge to improve performance.

Is A Convertible Bond Call Really Bad News?, Louis H. Ederington, Jeremy C. Goh

The article tests and rejects the hypothesis that managers call in-the-money convertibles when they view a decline in the value of the firm as likely. Inconsistent with this view, it finds that insiders generally buy equity before conversion-forcing calls. Also, analysts tend to raise their earnings forecasts following a call. There is no evidence that earnings analysts interpret a conversion-forcing call as bad news. Indeed there is evidence that, relative to firms in general, analysts are revising their earnings forecasts upward in the months surrounding conversion-forcing calls. Although previous research has theoretically asserted and provided partial empirical support for a positive relationship between an organization's market orientation and business performance, few studies have demonstrated this relationship using a broader conceptualization of business performance that extends beyond market-based and financial measures. This dissertation conceptualizes and develops valid measurements of key dimensions of a business performance construct—termed strategy-balanced measure of business performance (SBMBP)—and empirically tests this construct with the market orientation construct.
